Found a 2 tonner today

I found this truck awhile back and had forgot about it. Talked to some guys at work to see if they knew who owned the property and went tonight to talk to the owner. He said he didn't think he was ready to get rid of it yet, but I could go look at it if I wanted too. I thought it was a pickup, cause from the road all you can see is the front of it and it just looks like the bed is covered in tree branches. It ended up being a 2 ton 5 window truck. It's rough ,but is all there. Not really sure what you could salvage on it, but would be a good piece to look at when putting one back together. I'm gonna go back I think in a week or two and leave my name and number. Maybe when the snow melts and ground dries up he will be more willing to part with it.

A Deluxe cab 2 ton must have been a special order truck I'd think. Maybe used as a delivery truck where the original owner wanted the extra visibility. It' a 47 to 50 too.

All the stainless trim and the original hood ornament still there, nice.

Yeah I noticed that too, that it was an early one. I couldn't believe it was all there to be honest. I'm pretty sure it's been in this spot for probably 30 to 40 years from the looks of it.

Yes it is, but I talked to this guy for about ten minutes and I could tell he was thinking about it the whole time I talked with him. I think a little coaxing and maybe some cash he would be persuaded pretty easily.

Nice truck. If I had the space and came across a "Big 'Un" like that I'd be tempted to either put it back totally stock or if I were going to modernize it I'd keep the big dually wheels but chrome them and put a lowered flat bed on it, ala the Fast and Furious big 67-72 truck.

Re: Found a 2 tonner today

I keep looking at my 1-1/2 ton and thinking that putting mid 70's one ton dualie suspension under it and setting it a lot lower than it is would make a truck that I could use out of it.

If you just wanted that truck for the cab it looks like there is over two and maybe more than three tons of scrap in it and the bed that could be salvaged to get a return on the investment or the metal that is in the framework on the bed might be used to build something that you can use and didn't want to spend the money on such as a frame table or trailer frame.
The only thing good on this truck was the cab and hood as the front fenders are/were beat to death and the frame had so many brackets and mounts welded on it that it would have been near impossible to clean it up to use as a flat bed. I saved the cab and hauled close to three tons of scrap metal from the chassis. The Back half of the cab and the roof are going to be part of my stretched cab.
The red truck had a big fuel tank on it at one time.

Re: Found a 2 tonner today

This one I'm not even sure if I could salvage the cab. From what I could see the floor was pretty rotted. I would just kind of like to have it to pull the cab and front clip off and set it on a trailer so I have an all original one to look at while I'm doing the 51. If the cab is salvageable I would definitely consider using it. The chassis would most definitely go t oscrap as I really don't have a use for a truck that big lol.
