i thought i remember reading here that the weight of a completely assembled small block engine is around 750 pounds. i pulled my 327 out tonight and it seems to be bouncing pretty good on my 1000 pound rated stand. am i ok?

I'm pretty sure that your absolutely fine. I really doubt that your small block could exceed the 1000 lb limit. I'm not sure on the weight of a small block, but I really doubt that it's be more than 1000 lb....

I have a full big block 454 on a 750lb stand right now. It scares me a lot. I have a piece of wood under the front of the motor to keep it from bouncing too much. Oh yeah I got the 454 to toss into the suburban.

I was pretty skittish when I had my fully assembled 327 on my borrowed engine stand. I finally stuck a heavy stick of wood under the oil pan to help support the front of the engine. It sure gives you a little piece of mind.

A fully assembled smallblock with all cast iron components is rarely over 600 pounds.

Yeah, less than 600 normally.
I can understand the concern witht eh engine stands flexing though. I have a parts store special engine stand and it is rated for 750lbs. However, when i put that caddy big block on there it looked like the charlie brown X-mas tree. (y'all remember that cartoon?)
I used a bottle jack for peace of mind under the engine to help brace it.

thanks guys.........

i had visions of that thing coming down on my leg, my wife not being able to hear my faint cries for help over the roar of my compressor, and having to cut off my leg to save my life.

i am going to brace as you all have suggested, and begin the tear down

I have one those that supposed to break down for easy storage. It flexed so much I welded it together and added a brace...it still moves quite a bit with a big block on it
