A few questions about my 69 build

Hello everyone. I have some things I've been thinking about and want some opinions.
1. I'm thinking about going to coils over springs. Still not 100% on this.
2. If I go to coils, I'm thinking about shortening the frame while I'm doing the swap.
3. I think if I do shorten the frame I may do a stepside conversion .
4. What do you folks think of putting a 88-98 stepbed on these trucks? I'm toying with maybe doing a 99 up stepbed. I think that bed may match the lines of our trucks more.
Any opinions/suggestions are welcome. I'm looking to lower my truck and get a good ride. I live in the mountains with curves and I want the best cornering ability I can get.
Thanks, Jaws

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

There is a short box frame with trailing arms on the parts board for $600.00 and it is powder coated and ready to assemble. Maybe cost to much to ship but just thought I would mention it.

My honest opinion is that the original bed for the 67-72 trucks are the best looking whether it is a fleet or step, long or short.

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

I've seen a few really nicely done late model bed trucks and even then I don't care for them. I think it was cool in the 80s/90s but to me they didn't look right even then. I'd go with a stock bed.

I just don't think the later beds look as good. There are a few exceptions. One I saw had the body line matched and the wheelwells reshaped to match.

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

Every time I see a nice c10 from the front I get all excited... then when I walk around and see a late model bed I Immediately go "Ugghhhhh"... In my opinion you cant beat the original bed. But that's just me.Also My truck is swb(was a lwb before the conversion) truck lowered 5-6 inches and it takes corners like crazy. Make sure to throw a sway bar up front. It makes handling 100% better. Insane how much you'll notice.

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

I have to agree with everyone.........I do not like the look of 88-98 steppers on our trucks. Body lines, curves and contours just dont match well. I think the only reason people ever did it in the first place is because those beds are a dime a dozen....especially back about 10 years ago.
I couldnt imagine anything else on it.

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

Well. the opinions seem to be to keep the bed. I like the look of the fleetside longbed I have now. I was just thinking outside the box a little. What about swapping the coil suspension? I'm going to be doing the new exhaust soon and I'm getting the cab and frame from the 67 that donated the bed that I'm running now, so I'm trying to nail that down. I don't want to have to rerun it. Brother's trucks has lowered leafs for under $400. Keep in mind that this truck is going to get a stroked 454/700R4 combo in a couple lf years. I may box the frame before the big block goes in. Just thought I'd give you guys an idea of what my plans are. Again, any advise/comments are welcome. Jaws

Re: A few questions about my 69 build

I'd go with the coil springs/trailing arms. Smoother ride, better traction, imo.
