Exhaust manifold bolts broke in heads

I have 2 bolts that are broke off in the heads, 1 on each side . I tried easy outs and they broke off inside of the bolts. Now I can't get a bit to drill through them. Does anyone have any idea how I can drill these damn things out. I would rather not take the heads off if possible. I am just going to use help-coil for new threads so I just need to drill out the old bolts.

Re: Exhaust manifold bolts broke in heads

I always put a larger nut up agianst the broken bolt and fill the hole full of weld. After it cools for a few minuates just put a socket on the nut and back it out.

Re: Exhaust manifold bolts broke in heads

I had this same exact problem and the only option that worked for me short of pulling the heads was welding. Check my build thread if you want pics/tips. I rented a welder from home depot. Not sure if that's an option for you though.

What all others have said. Tape off the exhaust ports, take the engine down to a muffler shop with some beers and a couple of nuts to weld on.

I don't know how id get out of bed if I didn't have a welder.

Better get access, since ez-outs didn't work welding is the only other way to get them out without pulling the heads and taking them to a machine shop which will do the exact same thing.
