Well, every one of us was in the same boat as you at one time. We didn't know squat about these trucks. We started reading, working on them and learning as we went. You can do the same thing then some day you can help other people out when they ask questions...

Welcome to the board.

Yup... I've been working on some form of '67-'72 Chevy/GMC trucks for dang near 30 years. Still learining new things to this day.

To our young OP (Original Poster), just remember... even though the internet is snazzy and has tons of information with just a mouse click. Nothing beats a worn out old service manual. Or better yet, a worn out old mechanic. When I was young, I learned from my dad and another old greaser that wrenched on hot rods out of his home shop. Try to find an old mechanic an pick his brain. There are a lot of cats on here that have forgot more than I will ever know. So there is always room to learn more.

Re: Im only 16!!

You are in good hands young man, Be prepared to loose some blood. I have not had a Chevy yet (more than I can count) in my 32 yrs of driving that has not took some of my blood with it.

The best way to learn as others mentioned is to read and dig in. Take advise from people that have been there. There are a lot of great people on this site more than willing to help you when needed.

Most importantly, have lots of fun working on it and driving it.

I'm 40, still learning, still asking crazy questions. Don't expect that to change any time soon.

Re: Im only 16!!

Congrats on the truck!

I bought my 69 C-10 when I was 14, and built it up with my dad for my high school hot rod.

Still have the same truck, 18 years later.

Ditto EXACTLY! Except my truck is a '71. Every man's got to have a hobby...and as it turns out we all chose the best one.

Double Ditto! My dad & I did the same thing with the 70 he got new in late 69. Got the resto finished just after I graduated in 93 & it still looks the same as it did on my maiden voyage with her 20 years ago. It's the one in my avatar.........

Welcome to the board 71restomod, I'm new here too. It's cool knowing that you younger folks are interested in this old iron because that is what will keep it alive for many years to come. Have fun with the project young brother

Re: Im only 16!!

Welcome to the board.
16 is a good age to start. I remember when I was 16, hanging around the local one man auto repair shop in our little town, asking the old mechanic/owner, Archie ( he was an old WW2 army mechanic, and could fix anything) a jillion questions, trying to help, but mostly getting in the way. He always took time to listen to me and explain things so I could understand. That's the way most of the people on this board are, happy to share their knowledge with anyone who ask.

Re: Im only 16!!

I have been crazy about cars as long as I can remember. I would sneak into my brothers room to snag his hot rod mags and car crafts as well and read them cover to cover even the ads in them.I also remember taking his Moroso master catalog and looking at every part and that got me into the inside stuff sure enough and then by 8or 9 I was reading the service type manuels. When I was about 9 my dad had a 69 Pontiac Catalina that had quit running and it had also been side swiped and it was sitting out by the farm shop and I asked him about it and he said if you can get it runnig you can have it. He said it laughing under his breath and figuring that I never would do anything but mess it up, Well it was running in short order and we lived out in the country on a farm complex that was about 3 or 4 thousand acres with just farm roads for me to rip and run on.I belive in helping people with their problems on their questions and I think that no question is stuipid with maybe the exception of the one that goes unasked. A lot of people are ashamed to ask a question because it will make them sound small well we all started from square one and we all knew nothing at one time we all learned the first thing sometimesoas far as I'm concerned askaway. I am pretty good with most general, and some tricky and computer stuff and body. I am a auto diesel tech by trade but gave up the diesel end [got to where I could not stand the smell on my hands]Graduated from NADC in Nashville TN [where the school moto is get greasy easy]1986 then opened my own place rebuilding wrecks in like 1987. So I have been doing body work since then. Like I said as you have found out I ramble , welcome to the site and ask away. Jim
