Re: A Moral Question
Its just parts, biohazard concerns aside I see no problem with it. Encountered this situation several times working as both a trimmer and a technician. To me a lot would depend on the amount of cleanup/replacement required.
However I am having a problem understanding how you can buy it whole or just the powertrain through an "auction"

Re: A Moral Question
There are companies that specialize in this sort of cleanup. But from the sound of this it has been sitting since. Might try contacting one and arranging an estimate for sanitizing it. Mostly they cut and remove anything soft and only clean as a last resort from what I have seen.

Re: A Moral Question
Just throwing this out there for you to consider. The junkyards get vehicles in that have been in major wrecks. Take a look around inside some of the cabs. You've probably already pulled parts from a car that someone has died in. Speaking as a firefighter/paramedic I can tell you that many people die in car wrecks, and those cars end up in salvage yards all the time. Parts are parts. Wear gloves and old clothes, eye protection, and get rid of all the clothes when your done. You've probably touched worse stuff in your life and didn't even know it. Parts are parts. That person won't need them anymore.

Re: A Moral Question
Too true, a $15 Tyvek bunny suit will be enough in all but "wet" spots. Gloves are always a good idea along with a mask.

Re: A Moral Question
Check for damage to the drive train. For the $1900.00, that would include everything from the computer to the rear axle, in my book. A lot of people want low mileage 6.0 engines and trannys.

Re: A Moral Question
Ive seen a lot of nasty smashed up cars at auto wreckers that have "questionable" stains on seats.. especially cars that look like nobody could have survived... they probably didnt. I'd toss the seats and carpet if needed and take the rest of the truck. Let the other people that believe in ghosts and goblins pass on it so you can take it home cheap.

Re: A Moral Question
Any bullet holes in the front fender / area? My luck I'd get it and find a big hole in the side of the block.
I dont know man .. I think I'd pass on it just for the sake of the people who passed away, plus it could have been in a chase or whatever. If I'm running for my life I'm not going to take it easy on the motor. It's probably been run pretty hard for a long period of time. .. but who knows.

Re: A Moral Question
If it makes you feel better, I did the same thing on my truck. I bought a 90gmc sport from a police auction and it was all shot up. Po built the truck specifically for bank robberies. Ran from the police, outran them several times with the truck. Dummy used his actual tags on the truck and they traced it back to him. Went to his house, he tried to leave......he died and now I have his truck. Nothing immoral about it. I am a police officer, and a Christian. Look at it like this. If you don't buy it, someone else will, and it will most likely end up fixed up and sold to some family so little Jennifer can sit where somebody's brains got splattered. You want THAT to happen?

Re: A Moral Question
If you are actually needing the parts than I would absolutely go for it. Would I drive it around maybe not. Would I buy it on the cheap, keep what I need and part out the rest - definitely.
I say jump on it if its a good deal once you look it over, like said above, make sure that there are no holes in major pieces like engine or trans and grab it. |

Re: A Moral Question
I don't see the value in the whole truck. The drivetrain sounds like a steal, but they may tear a lot up getting it out. Might be nice to know if it did have bullet damage to the block or transmission since you mentioned it. I have no problems with a truck like that. If you don't buy it, some junkyard will. Lots of cars in junkyards have had people die inside, that is where late model salvage comes from-wrecks.

Re: A Moral Question
Like they said Tyveck. If you came upon the same deal for an engine and drivetrain from a source who had already pulled it,how would you know.So the real issue here is knowing. If it bothers you and you don't think you can live with it don't.

Re: A Moral Question
I have been in the rebuild business since 1987 I say buy it if you are concerned flip it it will double your money the way trucks are selling wrecked right now. Bio hazzard mean nothing to us in the biz most all of us know that that stuff is killed on cotact with bleach and will also die outside the body inusally less than 24 hrs anyway

Re: A Moral Question
If you get the whole truck just make sure the blood has not soaked through the carpet on to any metal components. Blood is highly corrosive. Don't see any issues with putting on some gloves and going to town. Just make sure you pull everything out including the carpet and give it a good scrub. If it makes you feel better people live and die in medevac Helicopters everyday and they fly around just fine with no haunting. Also, if you plan on reselling the engine/trans it is beneficial to have the truck it came out of around as I find people want proof of the mileage and the story your telling them.

Re: A Moral Question
Just my 2 cents, but, if you want it buy it, if you don't like the idea, don't buy it....its ultimately your money and decision....the rest of us just have opinions
