'56 Chevy (Tranny Shifts Freely In & Out of Gears)

Guys,

Coming over from the 67 Forum.

My friend is looking at a 56 stepside. It looks like a killer deal, the only thing I see, is that the tranny was shifting in and out of gears pretty freely.

I am not even sure what tranny it has, but was wondering if anyone has seen this on these trucks? I am pretty sure it is running a 327.

Not sure if it could be a shift linkage problem, or with the tranny itself. Even said, for $7500 this truck looks killer. I would guess it is probably worth double.

column shift or four speed stick? Column shifter gets worn and can missalign with linkage very easily on these old trucks when shifting between first and second.

It looks like a low end aftermarket automatic floor shifter. I am not positive, but maybe a th350 since I believe the engine is a 327. The owner doesn't really know anything about the truck. Selling because his dad passed away.

That shouldn't be too much of a problem.
