Question Is there a difference?

i was looking for a 68 frontend so i can put it on my 69 cause i really like the look and in lmc it says that the 68 and 69 fenders are the same. so can i just use the fenders i have and just get the 68 hood, grill and hood latch?

Re: Is there a difference?

If you are talking about a Chevy, you will need the 68 fenders, hood, grille, and core support. The 67-68 fenders are different than the 69-72 fenders. If you have a GMC, I do not know.

Re: Is there a difference?

leddzepp....Please, II beg you Please.....change your avatar back to your truck. I get so creeped out when I see this one. It has "Lock Up Raw" written all over it.

69truckin....how does New Mexico local and Yankees mix? Are you a transplant?

As for 68 slant nose. I would probably be cheaper to sell 69 and buy 68 versus trying to make the change. I mean even RuPaul has his goods still.

Re: Is there a difference?

There is a difference in Chevy fenders, I'm not for sure about GMC fenders. 67/68 are the same except 67 has no marker light, 68 does. So if you want the "68" look, it's more than just the grill and hood. By the way, I've been thinking about doing this to my 70 also.

Re: Is there a difference?

67 Chevy- unique one year fender. No marker light
68 Chevy- unique one year fender, same as 67 Chevt in fitament but tgey added the marker light
69-72 Chevy- all the same but quite different than 68 Chevy around the grille area.

67 GMC- same as 67 Chevy
68-72 GMC- all the same and the same as 68 Chevy with the exception of the emblem holes. More out there from what I have found. A good solid GM 67 or 68 Chevy fender is quite rare in the south east.. especially the pass side.

To change over from 69 stuff you need:
Fenders
Hood
Hood latch
Core support
Gravel shield
Of course grille and hoops, headlight buckets etc.

I have a pretty decent 68-72 gmc drivers side fender I would sell.

Rust free stuff is the way to go. Take your time, the repro stuff is hit or miss sometimes.
Good luck man
Let me know if I can gelp

Re: Is there a difference?

69-72 GMC fenders are the same as 68 Chevy. 67 Chevy and 67 GMC fenders are the same. Note,we're not talking about fender badge holes here, just the interchangeability.

You'll find fans of the winners (or most expensive team) everywhere and anywhere. True fans are loyal no matter what the record (or budget).

Re: Is there a difference?

I beg to differ I have a 72 Gmc that had a Chevy front end on it, I orderes 72 GMC fenders and there is a world of differance in the front edge of the 2. The Grill surrond moldongs that mount on the fenders will not mount from the GMC to the Chevy.

What are begging to differ with? You are supporting what CC69Rat and I (& others) have already made clear. The 69-72 GMC front fender (and top) mouldings are required to make up for the shorter hood with the longer fenders. They mimmick the 69-72 Chevy grille surround that fits back "into" the shorter (indented) Chevy fenders.

Isn't this in the FAQ section? If not, it needs to be.

Re: Is there a difference?

In the screenshot above, look specifically at the front leading edge of the middle and bottom pictures. The 69-72 Chevy fenders have an extra recessed area that is required for the 69-72 Chevy grille surround.

From what I understand the 67-68 Chevy trucks were designed by a guy that used to work for Mattel. (Hot Wheels) In 69, the GM designers felt their trucks were too sleek and se*y looking .. so they wanted to make them more blocky like the other competition. Make them look stronger and more farm worthy. That's why the 69+ Chevy trucks have the more up-right hood, aka what we now know as the slant nose trucks went away.

Tim (respectfully asking) .. you posted the following:

".. 69-72 GMC fenders are the same as 68 Chevy"

I thought the 68 GMC fenders would be the same too. Marker light hole, etc. Are they a one year specific deal? Something unique to a slant nose GMC only in 68 ?

I just mentioned the fender badge holes because when I find them laying around that's an easy way (for me) to spot them quickly. If you see a stack of them you can pull one from the other without having to sort through or move them. (Yes, I have been to Junkyard John's house )

Re: Is there a difference?

Can you briefly describe how you post pictures from your iPhone?

I have searched for directions on the site and most say it requires an app but that the moderators would have to enable that feature.

Thanks, John

No,you have it right. The '68 Chevy and GMC fenders are the same,as are the 69-72 GMC fenders. That's how I should have said it to be mire clear. I said 69-72 GMC meaning "as opposed to 69-72 Chevy being different". 67-72 GMC fenders never changed (except adding side marker in '68) where Chevy fenders changed in '69. So,69-72 Chevy fenders are unique even though they are more common to find.
