Fuel mileage question
After reading a few differant post on fuel mileage. I wanted to know what kind of mileage Jenna's 71 was getting? So I started to keep track of the fuel and mileage. The only thing is I have never tryed or had to figure out what the fuel mileage is. could someone show me how? Here is the #'s I have.
12.2 gallons 15730 mileage 13.5 gallons 15908 mileage 11.8 gallons 16047 mileage 11.5 gallons 16191 mileage I have been trying to keep track but the wife fills up and forgets to write down the mileage.  I hope I am getting decent mileage, but I totally think it is pritty crappy.

I assume that you filled the gas tank to full at each stop for gas. I took the total mileage traveled which would be 16191-15730=461 miles and it took 13.5+11.8+11.5=36.8 gallons of gas. So divide the miles/gallons and you get 12.52miles/gallon. You have to leave out the first 12.2 gallons because that just got you to the reference full mark on your gas tank to start determining miles per gallon.

You got 13.1, 11.7, 12.5 for an average of 12.4. Just divide miles traveled by gallons used.

ddsmith and tom hand, thank you for the input. I guess it is time to get out and do something to get the fuel milage up.

12.5 MPG if that is combined city/hwy...that isn't too awfull bad.
While some combos (even some stock ones) can get quite a bit more, most are lucky to bet past 10 or 11 (again...even stock). This even includes the inline engines. |

I think the Richmond overdrive upped me to about 10 mpg vs the 8.5 the 400 t/2400 stall verter was giving me......toys are fun, but not cheap! Im not too sure on your gearing(maybe missed it, kinda blind!). At anyrate, if that 1/2 ton truck is running 3.73 gears, the milage doesnt sound too bad. I had a very mild 327, witha 4spd(passenger), with 3.73 gears. The truck would get 12 mpg on the road running 60-62 mph.....it would pull a freakin mountain tho! not too bad a trade off in my book
 some of the best all around mileage i have seen has been on a mid 3's gear(the best of both worlds IMO).....they dont lug too hard in town, or rev too high on the road. Good luck,crazyL

12.5 is about what it should get, that is what i get on the highway, with a lead foot. Around town i get about 11mpg.
What are the specs on the motor? If it dosen't already have them, add a HEI distributor, some free flowing dual exhaust, and if you want too add a set of headers. It would also have more power with those upgrades.

Dang, congrats on your gas mileage. I have a 95 4x4 chevy that barely gets 15mpg. My 72 gets about 4 gallons to the mile, at least that is what it seems. I agree with crazy longhorn, our toys are extremely fun but definitely not cheap.
BTW Tom Hand is correct on the mileage calculations.
