Rocker Help before I place order.

I have some questions on parts before I place my order so I dont order parts I dont need.

On my drivers side, I am having to replace the floor, rocker, brace, pillar section.

So my questions...
Item 10 in LMC's pic. Is that a piece all on its own, or is that another "patch" that is included in items 3&4? I only found one piece of metal here.

Item 12 that is for trucks. Does that go under the floor, or inside the rocker? I looking of ways to try and add extra bracing in this area.

Also, if anyone knows of a thread that shows detailed pictures on repairing all this, please post a link.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

Item 10 is a patch. It is part of 3, 4, or 7. I bought them by mistake and wound up using them as patch steel for other areas.

Item 12 is under the floor spot welded to the bottom of the floor pan. It runs front to rear. Mine was in good shape so I left it alone. You shouldn't need any reinforcement once all the steel is good.

I have some pics in my build thread, but basically I just cut out all the rot and started piecing together what I needed from the patch panels.

If you have any significant rust in the rockers, I would bet on needing #2, 8, and 9 as well.

If the floor is bad you will likely need 13 and 16 as well.

I also would recommend buying from somewhere other than LMC. The parts I got from them were so/so at best.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

your correct on item #10 thats a inner rocker panel parts of that are included in the other two items but you gotta be sure that you inners are good past the first set of cab support bolts theres 4 bolts on the cab supports front/rear and #10 only uses two of each

If you got item #7 it incorparates the peices together for less mess/fuss but its not needed if the front and rear of yor cab floor/inner rocker is good personally i think # 7 is the way too go that is if you need all that

its allways a good idea to get a lil' more than what you think you need cause the evil rust is hideing there where you didnt think it is

yep that # 8 & 9 is one of those peices that you dont see till its all off then you'll see "oh i need #8 & 9"

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

Thanks for the responses.

I already purchased 3,4,2 as I could visually see I needed them. I thought I got a pair of rockers from a local guy. They do not cover everything I need(the back area is not complete).

So I need to get 13,8, and a rocker.

What place sells better things? Ive heard many times lmc has crap sheetmetal but I thought it all came from the same place. I'm open for suggestions for better metal aslong as cost is not stupid more.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

search "mobile hotrod mechanic 67-72 chevy rocker" on youtube. he has a series of videos that show the whole thing front to back.

I think I have those parts from LMC at my office. or maybe i got them from brothers. i can check when i get to work.

edit* nevermind i did get mine from brothers not lmc. and i just got the rocker and inner cowl replacements.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

Check GMC Paul he is a vendor on the site, everything I have read says his parts are awesome and shipping is reasonable. I am going to be ordering basically the same items for my 71, hope you post pics!

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

I bought my sheetmetal from Classic Parts. It might be the same stuff LMC sells, but IIRC they were a little cheaper and lower shipping.

http://www.classicparts.com/Patch-Panels/products/316/

I have become anti-LMC after several purchases. Unless they are the only place that has what I need, I look elsewhere.

I bought #7, but I did find I had to cut it in half to fit it in the truck. Wound up putting in the 2 pieces and welding them back together.

For my rust I used 7, 3, 13, 16, 2, 8, and 9. I really should have bought 5 for the RH side, but I wound up making my own patch panel out of leftovers from the the floor pan patches. The LH side was fine in that area.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

ok, correction. It was GMC pauls I had the problem with, not brothers. Dont want to slam the wrong vendor.

I will look at classics site.

sloan, I have a build thread in my siggy. It will be slow going as I have never dug deeper then rockers before.

Lattimer, I plan to use a 7 on the pass side. Thanks for tip on having to cut it in half.

Re: Rocker Help before I place order.

the mobile hotrod videos on youtube are a must if you are planning on doing this yourself. ebfabman (a member here) has his own how to videos of the process, I've heard they are very nice. also, check out this thread:
