Lightbulb help with streering box

I want to increase the steering ratio to make the wheeel ezer to turn.
It's a 1970 c 10 292 all manuel super basic.
Could go with a power conversion but I like the simple look under the hood.
I've read many posts on tightening.
This is my firtst post....
Ya..

Re: help with streering box

Welcome are you talking of the nut in the center of the box with the allen screw in it? You really don't want to monkey with that too much as it sets the preload inside the box while it will give the feel of tighter steering [for a breif time] it will also increase the wear time on the box from what I understand. But I am sure some one else will chime in and set me right as they always do

Re: help with streering box

I used to have Manuel steering in my c10, wasn't so bad but when I went to 5 mph it got stupid tough.. tighten the steering box won't make it turn easier, only way to be able to make it easier to have power steering. Other than that just keep going and avoid slowing down imo I think its a great workout, would have kept it in mine but when I changed to discs it was all on the truck I took my parts off of. And good luck with the truck, and welcome from PA

Question Re: help with streering box

Thanks for the info but I was wondering if I could replace the steering box so it would be ez to turn at slow speeds and keep it manuel. Maby some thing off a bigger truck or farm equpment. I think this box is somthing like 3.5 turns I was thinking 6 turns.
