I can't get the bench seat in my '69 to lean forward, so I can install my factory jack in the space it's supposed to go. I suppose I could try sliding the seat forward on the track, but I'd prefer it if it just leaned forward. Is there some trick to doing it?

My 68 has wing nuts you have to remove to get it to lean forward.

Interesting.. Mine could have at one time, don't know though. Do know 67-68 are the only "capable" lean forward. They take a completely diff style seat cover. (Mine is 68)..

on my 71 i would take the top screw out of the side to flip the seat up, otherwise it's solid

So why did Chevy design a bench seat that makes it so hard to get to the jack behind the seat?

Sliding the seat is the acceped access proceedure. Its really not that hard to do with the seat back at the forward posititon.

Yeah, it's just that the knob to be able to slide the seat forward is on the drivers side, and the jack goes behind the passenger. Just something you gotta remember, or you're doing the Chinese fire drill lol

Seat backs that flipped forward were a safety concern in an accident. Two door cars went to seats that had a latch mechanism for the backs about the same time as trucks went to fixed back seats.
