Found my build sheet, and pieced together some cool history on my truck - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

At our forum get together a couple weeks ago, Prich told me about the build sheet that came on each truck. He and I looked under my seat, but couldn't find anything. Well, guess what? Today I had to slide my seat forward so I could install my factory jack, and there it was in excellent condition, taped to the gas tank.

Here's the build sheet, and then below I'll give you a bit more insight

First off, my truck and I share some history. We were both born in California, and then grew up in the Salt Lake area. It was sold from an old dealership that is no longer there, called Streator Chevrolet

Here are some historical photos of the dealership

And, here's what's come of the dealership today...a parking lot. I think I'll do it a little justice, and update this thread with pics of my truck in that same spot.

Tim, or anyone else, I'd appreciate any other input you can tell me, based off the build sheet. Thanks

Pretty cool... I bet a lot of people are gonna be checking to see if their's is still there after seeing this (me included)!

My gas tank has some sort of factory looking cardboard cover. I pulled that back, and it was taped directly to the tank behind the passenger

Very nice A.J. I am glad you found it. It has some very good information on there and tells you what was what. If you are going for originality, it is like a bible.

Have you checked it against the vin number yet? That is a good place to make sure you have the correct build sheet if there are any questions.

Mine was given to me by the PO in a clear binder. I am happy to have it.

I am sure Tim will help you with everything you need to know about your truck with the information on the build sheet.

The build sheet verifies what's on the SPID. I don't see anything we didn't already know,since the truck was so unmolested when you got it. The build sheet verifies that even further.

I'm diggin' the old dealership photos.

There is of course a lot of information here. Much of it we already knew as far as truck RPO equipment.
However we now know it's scheduled build date was 10-22-68. So add another birthday to your calendar.
The factory installed tires were in fact 700x16(6PR)(1800lb) bias ply, tube-type highway tires. These were a N/C option in lieu of the 8-16.5(8PR)(1730lb) listed as standard.

Very nice find! My Fremont truck is about 10 miles from the dealership it was originally sold at (at the end of route 66

). The build sheet was tucked in between the seat springs. I have that, the protecto plate, window sticker, dealer invoice, all past registration cards, original plates and original dealership license plate frames. If you keep looking, you may find a second build sheet. I have heard of some Fremont trucks having two.

very nice find..... mine was built in freemont, sold at fletcher jones in vegas... stayed in vegas till the last few months.. now in az..

Excellent find Mister-B. my truck is a Fremont truck and I haven't found the build sheet...yet. I'm still hoping its in there somewhere. I pulled my truck from the town it was purchased in - Lebanon OR. Second owner. Also to chime in on your keeping the spouse happy I actually bought the truck for me and my wife to restore together. She's a Arizona farm girl who drove her grandpas truck in high school. She gets almost excited as I do when parts arrive. In fact every time I get home from work the boxes are open and parts ate layed out on the table for inspection. Atta girl!

That's cool! I was going to send you a picture of one so you would know what to look for. I found two in mine, one under the seat and the other behind the gas tank cover. Someday, I'll try to put together a complete one from the two.

Cool pictures of Streater Chevrolet, too! I think that was still there when I was a kid. Check out that Panel in the last picture-the one with the window in the rear side. I'm going to go find a picture I have of one similar.

This was at the Coalville SuperCruise a few years ago. It was obvious the window was factory. The owner said it had been a school bus in a tiny wyoming town.

The one in your picture, while not the same year, could be the same thing.

well like a sucker I went out to look looked behind the cardboard,nope, pulled up 2/3 of the crumbling rubber floor mat,nope. The seat was recovered before I got it so if it was in the seat I bet it was gone now,darn I really wanted to find out my trucks build date.

Bummer. Well, at least you've got a project to do now: clean up your floorboards and replace the rubber with new rubber or carpet

You got me curious, so I took another look at mine. I didn't, really, when I first found them. I just put them away for a later date. I knew I didn't have much to work with, though.

This is a Fremont truck and likes been said, sometimes there's two. One was under the seat. It's the cleanest of the two, but there's probably less of it. The other was behind the gas tank cover, but it had fallen down to the floor over the years and was embedded in 40 years of crud. It's mostly there, but unreadable.

Enough there to see it was sold at Shuman Chevrolet in Novato, CA. We should find an out-of-work documents restorer guy and see if he'll give a group rate to restore our build sheets

That's quite the puzzle you've got there. I had no idea what good shape mine is in comparatively speaking. Better than nothing though, and still very cool. But, yeah- this paper is crazy brittle. That top left corner fell off from me handling it, and I had to tape it back on. I bought a plastic sleeve and put it in that, and it made a world of difference

I never get so lucky to find cool stuff for my truck. Took me forever and a day plus a few duckets just to get steel wheels. (go figure)

They should come up with a super website that you can just type in your VIN and get repro copies of all this stuff. Too bad that technology didn't exist in 1969. LOL

We had all that stuff at one time. Father in law had it in the shop and the mouses found all of it but the recept for the check and the fist tag recpt.Still have them put up.
