Talking 1959 gmc 100

Well its getting about that time to Buy the old Truck..Even though I am broke LOL, I am selling things to hopefully get money for it, while looking for a Job as well..Hopefully going to buy it for $1,500 and give them the extra $500 over time.I am sure many of you have seen my photos on it

When I do get it soon, I want to figure out how to install a New Wood bed in it and put new Exhaust tips on it..When my Great-Grandfather bought it back when it was Green at the time, He had the Chrome Package on it and so on..Big Back Window(Rare) I suppose

As well installing Carpet on the floor or so, and Fixing the original Bench for it

Any ideas anyone ?

1,500-2000 seems like a good deal for it depending on the rust. Check the bottom of the doors and inside the front wheels weels, plus around the door hindges.

Re: 1959 gmc 100

If there is minimal rust and it runs and drives it is a good price.

It is Heavy with rust, the side step in the cab is gone, major rust spots in the cab area and in the Fender..The bed spacers are rusted away..
Not the best at Driving..Reasonable buyage price ?
How much do you think

Re: 1959 gmc 100

I sold my small window inline six 4 speed long box for 2000 it ran really well and went straight down the road. I felt like I got the most possible for it because it was so rusty.

I didn't get the most because it was rusty. But if it hadn't been rusty I could have gotten more.

Re: 1959 gmc 100

Hi, 19 y/0! Wow, I wish I had known that I liked old cars n trucks when I was 19, but at 19 for me, the trucks were just only 14 years old! What kind of work are you looking for? And if you're "broke", should you be looking for an old truck? I remember being 19 and excited about stuff, even when I had no money! Funny we want things when money in the bank has next to nothing in it! ; )

That's a nice looking truck with potential, but there are so many variables, so many things these old trucks need, lots of money, time/labor! You will get very little of the money back, if any when it is sold. As cool as these old trucks are, they are money pits! But seeing that you have been on this site for quite some time, you would know that. Even at 1500, is a lot of money when one has little. However, I feel your excitement as these old relics are really neat, and I especially like the fact that you have passion for the classics vs doing weird stuff that many younger folks are doing these days.

I would beg you to take paper and pencil, go out to the truck, find everything that the truck needs, or that you want to do to it (within reason), add it up, then double what you came up with! On my truck, it's was painted already, but it needed so much more, and every thing adds up quickly from used parts, parts from eBay, vendors, and trips to Ace hardware!

I have money available for my project and still feel guilty every time I buy something, and I hate asking my husband for another thousand here or there!

However, I'd like to hear more about what it needs to make it roadwothy from your point of view and be realistic!
Dne'

My 67 mustang was only 1300, but I have over 30,000 in it, I did all the work too. I had no idea it was going to eat up so much money!!

Re: 1959 gmc 100

Thank you very much, I may be 19 but everyone I know tells me I have old man mind LOL.But yeah I looked at it and know off hand what it needs, it needs a New Gas tank .New Side Steps on the Bed and new Cab step, possibly new Chrome faceplates.New wood bed.Cab rust needs to be repaired, I know how to repair the rusted holes and what not.Just this truck means dearly to me and almost cried when I saw it yesterday(Sounds weird). But I want to restore it..She runs good, but the guy who owns it now said its not road worthy but the Head light Lamp slots are rusted through some what..Still has original head lights and what not.I believe it is worth $1,000 mainly due to the Wheels..He has a new battery in it, but he told me he got it for FREE, so it wont affect his mind set

Once I am going to get the money, once I sell a few things I am going to buy it and start working on it slowly..Do you know where I can get a 59 Gas tank ?...I saw one on LMC, but tooo high LOL, So I have seen one up at the Pawn Shop near me and I am going to possibly get it after I get the truck and install it asap

Re: 1959 gmc 100

When it comes to parts, I think we're all kind of limited in our resources for parts; ebay,CL, and chevy truck vendors, friends. I went with the gas tank where the spare tire went. Some use Mustang gas tanks which I guess is a fair price, but I never checked the stang tank out. Mine came from Brotherstrucks, was half off, but easy install, but pricey even at half off. So in the long run, would you really want a gas tank behind the seat? gas odor? To get it running, you could always just get a 5gallonn gas can and run a hose/siphon from the fuel pump. You will have plenty to do; you can work on which gas tank to use.

Is your potential truck missing a windshield?

Let's get serious!
Does it run if it had gas/battery? what engine? what transmission? I can see a starter button on the floor and something orange through the floor.
What brakes?original drum?
Suspension/steering stock? safe/tight? or tie rods about the fall apart?
If and when you get it, park it, like you said, work on it slowly and have fun! These are expensive toys!
I'll be back~ going to work on drivers window

Re: 1959 gmc 100

I may as well get your name? I'm dne' or Denee',(duh-nay),
The link below will take you to my site which shows the aftermarket gas tank which I installed. There are others for sure at a lower price. I'm sure that if you search on this site gas tanks will pop up. But my link will at least give you an idea. I don't have my floor in my bed, so it was much easier, but I'm sure it can be done. or start a thread; surely some of the guys on here will pop in! If the truck has a new battery, has the truck been started?

I think I would start the truck and hear it run if the seller would let you; don't even charge him for your time, it'd be fun! Maybe even take it around the driveway? However, if the owner hears it running he may up the price! That wouldnt be good! Might be good to pull the dipstick to see if there is ONLY oil in the crankcase, and only water/antifreeze in the radiator!

Well, I'm excited for you~ hope all works out the way you want it~

Re: 1959 gmc 100

I was just curious what a commercial cooker looks like, is it just a large stove?

What kind of work do you do, or what work are you looking for? You'll need an income to fund your project.
