Found some steel wheels for the ol farm truck. Figured I would clean up the motor a bit while I was at it.

Re: Photos from today

Not to be a bummer but the only cap I have seen that work on these wheels are the factory caps. The problem is the factory caps need the factory lug nuts to attach them. The problem with that is your truck has standard lug nuts and the lug nuts for the caps are metric.

Anyone found a way around this?

I have a possible source for a set of factory caps but not sure if they are GMC or Chevy.

Re: Photos from today

I like it. I only like the wheels black when they are wide. And,even then,I like them more left open with chrome lug nuts...maybe trim rings. If your truck had other black, then maybe. We know white gives that stocker look, but so does argent silver like on rallyes and post-87s. Actually,'69s had silver wheels. That gives a blend of hubcap and wheel. Red with trim rings would be a sharp subtle custom look. I'd get the vintage ribbed stainless. Go ahead and plate those if you want, but you could polish those out good as chrome also

He just removed the alloy wheels and installed the steel hub cap type in the truck picture. You must be referring to "center caps" which are held on my plastic lugs that work with the 14mm duplex lugs. Conversion duplex lugs are made in 9/16s just for this purpose.

I've got nothing but time. Looking for 72-87 caps. Wife thinks powder coat red with chrome centers with red bowties. I'm still leaning towards black wheels. Unversity of Georgia colors.

Re: Photos from today

What was it someone's signature said.....A husband can be right or a husband can be happy? LOL I told here we would photoshop it both was and see how it looks. Meanwhile, we are on the hunt for some hubcaps. I'm lucky to have media blast, powdercoat and chrome guys local that all give me hook ups. There's a place in Fullerton, CA near Disneyland that will blast and powdercoat for $20 a wheel out the door. Just wish I had a wheel and tire hook up. I can use tools in the motor pool to take tires on and off but our balancer it tits up.
