Re: 53 ifs help

The 80's g body front clip is an excellent choice for these trucks. Alot of guys run s10 clips/frames but then have to run wide wheel spacers to set the track width correctly... the monte front clip is the exact same components, only difference is the frame crossmember is 2" wider so you wont need spacers or really small ones depending on wheel choice.

Re: 53 ifs help

Darty1987, My panel truck set on a whole g body frame. As 98layinframe said they do work out great because they are wider than the s10 stuff. I have no spacers on mine.

The aftermarket has you covered with a bolt in IFS . No CUTTING just a drill new holes.

Re: 53 ifs help

I totally agree with Shannon and 98layinframe.

Its a great choice if you are going the doner route because of the track width. It is 58" wide and gives you a better selection when it comes to wheels.

Re: 53 ifs help

It would be the better choice if you are going to do a subframe job on the truck. The 70's Camaro and Firebird subframes are a bit too wide and the S-10 has too narrow of a track width and needs spacers.

I've had two subframed vehicles, my 48 and the 51 Mercury coupe I had for a lot of years and both drove great but you end up doing a bunch of extra work making the front end sheet metal fit and work on these trucks when you run the front steer subframes. The money you save over using a MII style front end like G&R's 57GMC showed will be earned with the time you spend fitting the sheet metal to get it right. And it still looks somewhat hacked up unless you do some serious planning and fitting. The crossmember he showed is a bolt on unit that requires no welding. A 1/2 inch electric drill and a tape measure and a hand full of tools are all it takes to put it on the truck. They are also good for use in the regions of the world that frown on welding on frames or suspension pieces as they are all bolt on. You don't have to have your welds inspected and passed. That isn't an issue for most guys in the states but there are places where it is a big issue.
