Wire Tape Replacement (non-sticky)

IIRC, 67cheby or someone else found a replacement tape material for wrapping wiring up to make it look stock but it kept it from getting sticky like electrical tape.

Does anyone else recall this?

If so, link to more info and any experience with this product.

It very well could have been a wire loom type material as well but kept the stock look.

eastwood is one place that comes to mind that sells the wire wraping tape// it comes out good after a bit of practise and the right technique for starting and ending the wrap is mastered

Here are a couple of sources for you. You may even be able to get this through NAPA or a normal parts store.

I would think anyone who sells restoration parts should stock it.

How does it adhere if it is non-stick? Heat?

i have used the non-sticky wire loom "tape" that Year1 sells. Probably the same as all the above (exactly like the classic industries tape) - works fine. It is NOT the cloth stuff you see listed on some of the ebay returns. Takes a little more patience to use as it it will unwind since it's not sticky (until you finish wrapping and get the end tied down). I'd practice with a few short lengths first to make sure you have the wrappin, and more importantly, end tie procedure down before you wrap on your actual harness. Might be under-estimating your wire wrapping cababilities, but I know I had to practice a bit (ok, SHOULD have practiced a bit) before I got all tangled up in it for real.

Does the "tape" tie onto itself or do you use something else to tie it off?

I used the non adhesive vinyl that Tbone linked to on ebay, worked great. And yes the original looms they tied to themselves without anything else.

There's one on Ebay for 2 rolls for $6.99. I assume on the rubber style, one is as good as the other.

I'm not a big fan of the cloth style.

what sloan said - factory tied em. But i've seen people do it both ways on rebuilds. Either looks fine, but I think the slightly messier looking tied off way is more factory correct.
