AD chrome windshield molding

I finally bought the windshield chrome trim for my truck. Found out that it's not the easiest thing to install (unless I'm doing something wrong). Does the windshield have to be out to put it in? Any tips?

You have the right rubber for it?

I think you can do it either way, mine glass was in place. It does take some persuasion.

And a few choice words!

I've been told by some others it be installed off the truck. I wish I'd took their advice as I've already dinged it up!!!

Re: AD chrome windshield molding

Let the truck sit out in the sun all day, soften the rubber up. Soap the rubber up so the molding slides in easier.

Re: AD chrome windshield molding

I'm going to have to look at my truck when I get home tonight because I'm pretty sure the rubber on it is the standard (no chrome) rubber that has a lock groove on the front side while there is another rubber that has a special groove for the stainless trim.

I'm thinking that unless you ordered the deluxe rubber to begin with you might have a windshield rubber similar to mine.

Here: good info that you should be able to use.

Re: AD chrome windshield molding

Mine was a piece of cake, replaced the rubber, hung the stainless trim on a nail in the garage, done! LOL

Seriously though, I ditched the trim and used "non-trim" rubber as a replacement.

I may be following your lead.....tore the rubber last night trying to work it in!
Luckily, I have a spare non deluxe trim laying around that came with the truck.

Re: AD chrome windshield molding

are we talking about the trim around the Windshield? or the piece in the Middle between the 2?
if your talking about the trim around the WS it must be put in the groove of the rubber before installation.
Lots of soapy water.
you must watch as you install the assembly that it doesnt start coming out because you will play hell trying to get it in the groove after your done.
it is a Locking device for the WS Rubber.
It also important that you dont bent it or deform the shape, of the trim or it will never stay in.
if it wont lay on a bench assembled without poping out, you need to tweek it.
and you go ahead an install the center piece first too
