6 lug disc conversion, wheel backspacing
I've converted my 65 1/2 ton using baer brakes kit, lowered 2.5" in the front using mcgaughy's drop spindle and 5'' (I think) in the rear with a spring. I threw a set of wheels off of a newer chevy avalanche and it looks like the wheels in the front stick out about 2'' past the back wheels. I've searched and found some rotors that offered different spacing, but that's not an option for me.
Is this is a common issue when lowering these trucks or is it the wheels? as far I know the wheels on the truck are the same back spacing now.

Most dropped spindles move your front wheels out 3/4" per side. I don't know if the bigger brakes effect the offset.

yes it is. I just used McGaughneys 2 1/2 " drop spindals, stock front springs with 3 " rear coils . I run 15 x 7 front slotted mags and 15 x 81/2 rear slots and they balance out to look even from the side. The rotors in the front tend to push out the front wheels a bit, they claim only 1/4 inch or so, but to me it looks like a bit more...

So, to fix my problem... Can I get away without using wheel spacers and get wheels with a different offset or what?

The front to rear track width is differant, the rear axle on the 65, is in fact almost two inches narrower that the front, in 1971 GM changed the rear axle track width by 1.5 inches, so if this really bothers you, you have two choises, buy wider rims for the rear or differant back spacing or change out the rear axle to a `71 or newer..

I totally forgot about the front being wider.... that explains it. hanks for the info, ill see if ican get some different wheels
