Looking at a 1991 1500 suburban on Friday

I'm looking at a 1991 1500 suburban on Friday. It has 50,000 miles on it. It has the 350 with an 02-04 GMC 2500 trans. He said the trans switch was done to have a stronger trans. The body and interior look mint in the pics. He wants $5500. Is this fair. Any thing to look for?

I think that is fair if it's in great condition. Others I've seen on this site and local, are along those lines. They are great trucks for sure. This is my second Suburban and I love it!!!

That's a much heavier duty trans and will last forever but it takes more HP to turn and will make the truck feel less peppy. It looks nice in the pic.

That is a very nice looking Burban! If the interior and driveline are in great shape also, It'll be worth it!

It looks nice but unless it's in amazing shape, I think the price is too high. It almost looks like a 2wd too. Just doing a spot look, I didn't see anything over about $3500 so $5500 seems high.

For that price it has to be RUST FREE!! Nothing.

I will add though, the tranny in the one you are looking at is a 5 speed rather than the typical 4 speed. That did, I'm sure, cost a pretty penny.....so that is nice.

I ended up buying it for $4000 and an old Marlin 30/30 lever action rifle. I had maybe $350 into the gun. It's a 2 wheel drive 1991 Silverado Suburban 1500. It has the 350 in it and a 4l80E trans and Painless Wiring kit with transmission controller for changing shift points and stuff like that. I'm the fourth owner.

I discovered who the previous owner was and found his number online. I contacted him and he gave me the history on it. An older couple bought the suburban brand new and only used it to tow a camper. When the husband passed away the suburban sat for a little while. The 2nd owner (the one who I got this info from) knew the family and bought it off of the widow. He said the widow had it painted stock colors before he bought it because the paint was oxidizing. When he bought it the odometer read approximately 39000 miles.

The 2nd owner is a certified mechanic at some dealership. He took the 700r4 out and put the 4L80E in it with the Painless kit and trans controller. He also put keyless entry and remote start. He said he owned it for a while but he needed money so he sold it to the guy I bought it off of. He said he sold it 5-6 months ago with 50,000 miles.

The guy that bought it is elderly and couldn't pass his drivers license test so he held onto the suburban for 5-6 months and put it for sale when he realized he'll never get his license.

I bought it with 50,800 miles. I took one picture today. Was busy getting tags for it and other family stuff. The interior looks perfect except for the head liner is sagging slightly. It runs nice. The paint is a 10-20 footer. It looks good but when you get up close you see the orange peel and a couple of flakes. The body and frame are rust free. I'll try to get more pics in a couple of days.

I looked at some of those tranny's and they are definitely a pricey piece. I think you did great!
