flex plate troubles.
So lately my truck has not been having luck with starters. burned one up,grinds etc. yesterday i jumped into the old beast and when i went to start it it made a girding noise. but started. went to pay some bills came out and the starter did it's thing but sounded like it wasn't "meshing" to the flex plate after 5-7 trys finally cought and i brought it home and parked it, only thing i can come up with is my flex plat is frigged. the starter is a brand new high torque with off set mounting holes.
someone please help loosing my mind with this.

Re: flex plate troubles.
Isn't there some kind of flex plate upgrade he can do? Might think about that while you're already in there.

Re: flex plate troubles.
Take the inspection cover off and check the teeth, you may just need to shim the starter

Don't know how much you would gain out of it though. I assume lighter would mean less rotating mass so you might gain a smidgeon of power and MPG. Its probably better considered as part of a whole system like with an aluminum driveshaft and lighter aluminum wheels etc etc. |
