1985 GMC truck dealer data book

Hello all I am kind of new here so forgive me if the information is out there and I can't find it. I have a 1985 GMC Sierra Classic that I want to restore and I would like to be able to recreate the original factory sticker but I cant find the sticker or some of the information that was on it I have all of the RPO codes but am missing the prices for the following rpo codes

GU2
C60
E63 if there was a charge
KC4
LB1
XAS, YAS and ZAS
77W

I have a couple thoughts.

1) The GM Heritage Center archive has free downloadable .pdf files of generic information relative to '85 pickup trucks. You can access that here (Chevy shown, GMC the same): http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html

2) You can also send your VIN and $50 to the Heritage Center and they will give you the actual invoice for your specific truck (including RPO content and pricing). Again - I know they can do this for Chevy and assume they can for GMC as well: http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/

3) Lastly, you can contact site vendor Chipflyer and he can make you a new SPID (Service Parts ID label) for your glovebox: http://outintheshop.com/vin_decode.html

4) Window price stickers (Mulroney Label) available thorugh TripleA enterprises. They may ask you to find a blank for them to use.

Geez - I guess I have a couple more thoughts.

I can answer most of these from memory:


GU2 - 2.73 rear axle ratio - no charge
C60 - Air Conditioning $781 MSRP in 1987
E63 - fleetside box (no charge)
KC4 - engine oil cooler $126 MSRP in 1987
LB1 - engine, 4.3L V6 - no charge
XAS, YAS and ZAS - tire RPOs (X = front, Y = rear, Z = spare) P195/75R15 White wall (that's a pretty small tire) - probably no charge
77W - interior color - burgandy - no charge

Other than AC it sounds like a pretty base level truck.

The .pdf file info packet that I provided will give you more detail.

I'm not sure if you would call it a plain jane truck or not it has duel head lights, clock, AM/FM stereo and rear speakers, A/C, comfort tilt wheel, PW and PW rear seat tray heavy duty power breaks, intermittent wipers, stainless mirrors, engine oil cooler, cruse control, power steering, heavy duty battery, rally wheels. I think it was ordered by my grandfather as a work truck but I'm not sure since the bed floor has no real damage to it.

it also has a funky pinstripe that I wonder if it is factory, dealer or aftermarket?
I love the truck and am torn between restoring it, and making it a hot rod.

Ya, I guess I missed that it is a Sierra Classic; most of that stuff is standard with the upper trim levels.

If you can get a better pic of the pinstripe I can tell you if it's factory or not.

Which assembly plant was the truck built in?

Thank You Keith, I'm sorry that I forgot to thank you before, I was in a hurry at work and didn't want to get caught.

I will add a better picture but Its not much better, it was a black out line with an orange stripe in side it but you can kind of see the black outline.

the truck was built in the Janesville, WI assembly plant in November, 1984 but I have no idea which day.

Ps. anyone know where you can get emblems restored?

Can't really tell much about that stripe from those pics. It sounds like the typical adhesive stripe used to break up the paint colors with a two tone (but not available on single color trucks).

Any indication the truck was a two tone originally? The code would be ZY1 for no two tone; ZY2, ZY3, ZY4, ZY5, and ZY6 are various types of two tone.

Since it loops back and follows the lower trim back (if I'm seeing that right) that would not be a factory stripe.

The only other thing I notice is that it has an earlier '73-'80 style front bumper on the truck. The '81 and later bumpers are more styled to match the rear.

Janesville was a good plant. I would have been working in Flint the day your truck was built.

Thank you, the truck was a single color from the factory.

I found out yesterday that the stripes were actually a dealer add on using a roll of pinstripe that was sold by GM it was a three stripe roll black, orange and black the guy was going to get me the original part number.

the grill is off an 84 and the bumper was replaced and welded to the frame, I have the correct bumper and will be cutting the current one off this spring.

I was wondering if you would happen to have a picture of the correct steering wheel for this truck by chance?

Yes; base and intermediate trim levels (Scottsdale/z62) have the wider horn button; Silverado/Sierra Classic get the more narrow, upright horn button with the brushed finish.

It is always something, it does seam like if you have a 73 to steering wheel you can almost ask what ever you want for it if it is in good shape, I found like what I need and he wants $500 for it plus shipping.

well my dealer data book showed up and it turned out it as a preliminary data book with no prices, I had downloaded the file from the GM heritage center and it has no prices. so I contacted the heritage center and just got a reply back from them that they don't even have that information from 1985. maybe I will have to find one that has what I want and then send them a PDF so that others can use it too, unless someone on this board has a copy.

Well. That's a bummer....

I noticed the '84 .pdf download has prices, as does the '86 (as does the '87).

You might try cross referencing those two or three documents. If the price is stable, then there's your price. If it increases across the model years then maybe you could average it in order to "fake" a value or something.

I think that I will just save my pennies and buy one off ebay that I know has the prices in it and then when I get what I want send GM a PDF of the book. but you and some others have been a HUGE help and I thank you very much
