Wheelbase on vin number?

Is there a way to tell if a truck is shortbed or longbed by the VIN number? I know you can on the glove box info but can you by the vin plate on the drivers door?

Thanks

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

I think I answered my own question.

cs1 57 or 59 dictats the wheelsbase. Is this correct? 57 equals short and 59 is long

This question is for a 67-68 I have a 67 shortbed with matching numbers. NO TITLE though.

That is correct for a 67-72 GMC. Chevrolet from 67-72 used 07/short 09/long
67-72 Chevrolets do not have wheelbase in the VIN, but the wheelbase is in the model number.
67 gmc's have the wheelbase in the vin. 68-72 GMC's do not have WB in the vin, but it is in the model number.

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

So is the model number not shown in vin either? I assume this would be in the glove box

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

Part of the model number is in the vin, but not all of it. Both the vin and model number Should be on the SPID in the glovebox. Is this a Chevy or GMC. You have GMC codes but a chevy in your avatar. You can click the link in my siginature for vin and model number decoders for gmc and chevy 67-72.

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

On a 1967 GMC, the full model number is in the vin.

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

This is for a 67 chevy. I dont have a title for a cab and swb frame even though they are numbers matching.

I really want a 68 anyway and so I was thinking of buying a 68 cab but didnt want it to read as a lwb truck if I went to sell it.

I wish it was easier to get the title to the truck I have. I can get it but it is a big pain in the butt.

yes, although the model number was on the build sheet, and often written on the firewall in grease pencil, or written on the frame.

If it gives you peace of mind then just go through the trouble and get the original title. It'll make your truck worth a little more having everything matching. (spid, frame stamp, vin tag, title) If it were me and it were possible to get everything matching, then I'd go for that without hesitation.

Re: Wheelbase on vin number?

Well I am making a Porterbuilt air ride, lsx truck so it will be far
From original. I am not sure numbers matching will be a huge deal. my main concern was if there was an easy way to see it was a long or shortbed by VIN. I don't have a spid anyway. I have a small window 67 cab and I don't care for the small windows. I figure if I could fine a 1968 cab the. I would just swap to that since I am having troubles getting title

Thank you so much for all the help!!
