Picked up a 86 gmc 1 ton today

Hello

So I found an 1986 GMC 1 ton swr for $500 and had it to my house in 2 hours. My plans are to use it for a parts truck for my 3/4 ton 87'. I don't know much about it yet. Things I do know 350, hydoboost, sm465 and 14ff out back.

Re: Picked up a 86 gmc 1 ton today

I am considering that, but might just swap out the parts I want. So far I'm thinking about taking the 14ff to replace my 14sf, but need to figure out the ratio before doing it. Leaf springs and brakes look new. Are the two rear ends interchangeable?

The main reason for getting it was the manual trans so that's all coming out.

I'm also curious about the hydoboost. Would it be hard to swap out, and / or is it worth the change?

Also taking the engine for a future rebuild project.

Unfortunately the Po gutted the interior, down to cutting the dash out. Anything else I should look at?

I am almost afraid to ask , but can you explain the orange straps on the bumper?

My two younger brothers went to pick it up for me today. And that was they're idea of extra backup in case the 4 bolts on either side didn't hold.

Thank you. I was hoping you weren't going to say they were holding the tow bar on.

The rear is worth what you paid for the whole truck. Great buy.

Re: Picked up a 86 gmc 1 ton today

I've been doing some reading on the 14bff. Anyone have a best guess of what gears would most likely come in a 1-ton 2wd 6.2 diesel (according to vin) with sm465? From my reading people seem to say most 14bff came with a 4.10. But today I jacked up the rear and turned the drive shaft and I only counted 3 turns. Now I know I won't know for sure until I pull the cover. Also the shock mounts are different can I take the upper mounts off, and move them over?
