Gas Filler

I have been kicking the idea around in my head on using the existing fuel filler that is in the cab of my 68 GMC, but piping it from there to a under bed blazer tank. Do you guys know of anyone that has done this or if you think there would be any issues doing this? I was thinking that I could exit out of the back of the cab just below the bed floor and try to keep the pipe at a negative angle pitching back to the tank filler.

Re: Gas Filler

You'll have to overcome frame/cab flexing. On a long bed Ive seen as much as an inch or more of twisting/flexing. If your truck is always on a flat surface it wouldnt be an issue.

A few rubber hose connections should overcome the flex issue

That is what I was thinking maybe use ridgid pipe to get outside the cab and then a rubber connection to the pipe that runs along the frame and then another rubber section to crossover to the tank. I was thinking of using stainless tubing for the section that runs along the frame. Just not sure what diameter would be best.

Re: Gas Filler

I can see two possible issues. The first is venting; that's a long run for the fuel to make with very little slope to allow the air to slip past the incoming fuel. I think that might be an issue.

The second is just the length of the fuel filler and the related chance that something would hit it or cause it to leak.

Re: Gas Filler

My IHC pickup does a similar (much shorter) run except it has the pillar filler that exits the cab to a saddle tank from the factory.
You are not the first to ask this question here.
My question is why would you go to the trouble of relocating the tank and keep the filler in the cab?
If you must relocate the tank, duplicate the blazer/suburban installation as much as possible including the vent.
There was also a rear aux tank option RPO N18 for pickups. These installations are in the assembly manual.
