Dumb
Man I think I need to give the truck and me both a break! I worked on it for the past several month's trying to get it all prepared for the Power Tour in June. I worked on it and drove it to Myrtle beach a couple of weeks ago for the big show. Had a good trip other than the gas guage quit working.
So I pulled the dash out and boxed up the guage to send it back to Speed hut to check it out. I had the thrid brake light switch to break as well but I got back to working with some electrical tape. When I got the dash out I decided to work on the brake switch again and do a permit fix as hooking it up to the regular brake switch. Well the darn drivers side brake light wouldn't work this morning. So I started trouble shooting it. No power on the rear socket Huh it had power before, well I checked everything and figured it was the thrid brake light wired into it. I really couldn't see how this would make it stop working but hey it's all I had done to it. So I'm all but given up when I decided to check the turn signals with the key on....Ding ding ding the drivers side signal was on already. I must have hit it by accident and didn't know it. I was fixing to tear into the wiring under the truck. Thank goodness I tried the turn signals first!

Re: Dumb
Yea that's a understatement for me though! I seem to do it all the time here of late.
I'm just glad I didn't take the whole dang wiring out of it before I realized it!

Re: Dumb
You can definitely put me down in the dumb column. Discovered I had no power at the signals or brakes or backup lights. After 2 hours of troubleshooting, it came down to me unplugging the rear harness at the firewall! We all do things at times that make us question our ability to function as a human!

Re: Dumb
Back in my High School days we were doing a Trans swap in my 56 Chevy and using a floor shifter. Could not for the life of me figure why it would not start, spent 3 days tracing wires checking starters. Then while setting in the car staring into space wondering WHY I looked down to see someone had put it in drive on the column deactivating the neutral safety switch DUH

Re: Dumb
Then you know the feeling you have of being upset at your stupidity but happy as hell it was something simple

Back in the late 70's my future brother in law and I did a radio install for a buddy. I did the mounting he did the wiring. Man that thing was pumpin out some AC/DC........until we shut the car door. He had wired the radio to the first hot wire he found, the dome light circuit.

Re: Dumb
I restored my CJ5 the first time back in college in the 90's. Finished a painless wiring install. Turned the key nothing. Rechecked everything thrice. Nothing had power. Three days checking thinking looking at everything and my roommate says "did you hook up the battery?". DOH!

Re: Dumb
I tried to troubleshoot a Dodge truck I had for an hour on the side of the freeway. It wouldn't start. Just as I was about to start walking (this was the age before everyone had cell phones), I look down to see it's in drive. Put it in park and it started right up. BEAT THAT!!!
