Re: 350 build
Vortec heads from Summit, or if your adventurous get a Vortec 350 as your starter. It comes stock with the heads, and a roller cam. So a good balance job, and a decent cam it would be a power house for DD or work. Plus the 1 piece seal is better.
If I do a sbc in my truck a Vortec or the newish LT1 will by my choices. |

Re: 350 build
Heads will always be the single best improvement.

Re: 350 build
you mention adding items to the top-end, are you also planning to go through the bottom as well? Can't go wrong with Vortec heads, but be prepared to spend what you have proposed in your budget. If you plan on running more than 460 lift, look for the heads that have been machined for that, if not stock are still great.

Re: 350 build
Are you building it or adding performance parts to the short block
