dim only..

Only have dim lights, no brights... replaced the dimmer switch and same thing. Now im assuming bulbs are good, would the headlight switch keep the brights from coming on?

Re: dim only..

Randy may be right. the bulbs may be bad, also check the wiring at the dimmer switch, see if its burnt , maybe a bad connection, might also use a test light to check for fire at the high beam part of the head light, might save a trip to the parts store...

Re: dim only..

Test light and an OHM meter you can ohm test the bulbs and check for 12v at the switch and then the bulb

Chevy or GMC?Sounds like bulbs may be bad but you may have gotten a bad dimmer switch. It's been know to happen.

Re: dim only..

Had a similar situation years ago on my '71 4x4 shortly after I bought it and after replacing the dimmer switch found the wires were badly corroded going into the switch. The plastic connector was de-formed from a short apparently before I bought the truck. A trip to the salvage yard with a pair of wire cutters gave me a new connector, problem solved. Been good to go since then.

Re: dim only..

We had the same problem on a '70 GMC a while back. The headlights were very dim and yellow. They also only worked on low beam, no high beams.

Good advice from the guys above. We replaced the the dimmer switch, but nothing changed. We installed new sealed beams and tested the headlight wiring. Still no change. Then we removed the black ground wires from the headlight harness and cleaned the grounds. The lights were much brighter, but still no high beams.

We replaced the headlight switch and presto! The headlights were back to normal and we now have high beams.

I hope this helps.
