84 Chevy help

I found a great deal on a 1984 Chevy C10 today. Found the truck sitting in someones yard. Come to find out this truck is a 1 owner that has been garage kept up until the last year. The interior and exterior is in great shape. The truck had a camper on it since the man purchased it and the bed doesn't have any damage to it, no dents and minimal rust on the exterior. The only rust is a small portion on the front of the hood where it meets the grille. The old man that owns it told me the truck broke down when he drove it home one day but after speaking to his wife that was not the case. Actually he is not suppose to be driving as he is over 80 yrs old and in bad health. He would sneak off in the truck so his son came over and removed the battery from it. The truck has a 4.1L I6 and a four on the floor. I looked at the tag on the fender well that has the vin#, model # and options. I am trying to decipher all the numbers and I am very confused. Can someone help me with this? Oh and by the way....I got this truck for 700$

Re: 84 Chevy help

So is the Production Sequence Assembly Number the number of the truck off the assembly line? I did a google search of the model# and it came back as only 1922 of this model to be produced. Once I clean this truck up I'll post pics. Needs a good wash/wax. I know the old saying, if theres no pics it never happened right....lol

I tried to post some pics of the truck as it is now but it won't upload from my phone. I'll try and post some later today from my computer.

Roughly, but not quite. The production sequence number was different between Chevrolet and GMC so the two products on the same line did not count up the same. Additionally, many plants do not build in VIN order, as the bodies are mixed coming out of paint and into General Assembly based on RPO content and line workload balance.

Where did you find this? Does not sound right at all.

There were four (pickup) assembly plants building these at a rate of one per minute, 2 shifts per day for an entire model year.

According to my calculations that would be a little over one million units for the 1984 model year.

My favorite saying (attributed to me but I don't think I ever said it): "...there are no rare squares..."

So - back to your original question - the option content is shown on this label and there is a brief description of the option, which (hopefully) should be obvious.

Did you have some specific questions we could answer? It would not be a very good use of our time for us to go through every line on your SPID.

By way of further detail, here is the info packet from the GM Heritage Center for a 1984 Chevy pickup:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs...olet-Truck.pdf

You may find some helpful tidbits of information there.

For 1983, letter F represents a 5.0L 4bbl engine.

I did a google search of the model# CC10703 and a website showed 1922 to be produced. I'm not trying to waste anyones time just making sure it's not a rare gem before I start customizing it. I'm planning on switching the drivetrain and engine to a 350 and putting different rims on it. The Chassis Identification info posted by J Knight was very helpful as was the info you posted.

Thanks

Re: 84 Chevy help

Keith Seymore, I just read your post (My Chevy truck intro/build thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=342926). That is pretty impressive. If anyone on the web should know anything about these trucks it should be you I'm sure. Thanks for the help.

Thank you and you are welcome; I'm impressed you were able to get all the way through it...

Based on that search criteria that number is totally whacked. You should be able to modify away without fear of destroying a rare gem.

Ah - then I revise my earlier rating to "moderately impressed".
