Got a sweet deal on this 84

I have noticed this truck over the past 9 or 10 months but could never get anyone to speak to me about selling it. Finally a few days ago I stopped by and the old man told me he would let me have it for $700 and he made sure to tell me "Now that's cash money son" This guy is approx. 80 yr's old. He actually opened the door in his whitey tighties and a t-shirt with no shame and stood there and told me about the truck when he bought it and didn't have a care in the world that he was standing in his underwear. I have attached a couple pics of the truck I took the day I was talking to him. I'm thinking with a good wash job and buff it will look really good. I am going back today to pick it up. I looked it over quickly and didn't notice any dings in this truck. I wiped away probably 20 yrs of dust from the bed and the paint still looked great. The guy told me he put the camper not long after buying it. There is a little bit of rust on the hood (seen in the pic) and at the bottom of the driver door (Approx. 1.5" long). I think overall I got a great deal.

Re: Got a sweet deal on this 84

That story made me laugh. Seems like you picked up a good one from the pictures. It reminded of mine when I bought it several years back from an 85 yr old farmer. My truck was lowered and I asked him why it was lowered? I asked him "why an older farmer had a lowered truck?" He promptly replied " I lowered it so I could get my old butt in and out of it!"

Yeah he is a funny Ol' guy for sure. I am going to wash and wax it. I rubbed it with my shirt and some water and seen a little shine underneath that film...... Hopefully I can clean it up this weekend and re-post some better pics of it.

You'd better clean that seat really good, if he has the brass to stand around in his underwear no telling what he's done in that seat!!

Re: Got a sweet deal on this 84

So I went with a tow strap Sunday to get the truck and brought a can of starter fluid, a tool kit and a hot battery just to see if it would start up. I pulled it down the road about 1/2 mile, pulled over in a parking lot and put the battery on it. Didn't even use the tools or the starter fluid and the truck fired up so I drove it home. I need to change the thermostat and the valve cover gasket. It smoked about the first few miles but eventually quit. I guess gas sitting in it 10 months will do that.

Re: Got a sweet deal on this 84

Man that's cool. Sounds like you got a good deal so far. The smoke is probably the valve seals. The old engines were terrible for that. Now get it all cleaned up and post some pics.

Re: Got a sweet deal on this 84

I send photo from my iphone to my email on my ipad. Then i save photo on the Photobucket hosting site. Then cut and paste link into the message. Not sure how anybody else does it but I am sure something similar. Snapfish, etc. Maybe one of the more tech savvy individuals can weigh in. If a more direct method, you may have to resize photo. Half awake, but all I can come up with. Good luck.

Well I got it cleaned up some. Not bad for a cheap buffer from Walmart. Still have some cleaning left on it though.
