Fuel tank vent

What's the best way to vent my under bed conversion fuel tank, it's the blazer tank from lmc. I was thinking about using one that is used on boats that fit into the end of a rubber hose?
Thanks

Re: Fuel tank vent

mine is vented up the filler neck and through the cap. most caps will let some pressure pass through them.

Re: Fuel tank vent

I agree, just use a vented cap. There should be no problem, unless you're engine needs a huge amount of fuel.

Re: Fuel tank vent

Probably not. I was thinking you were talking stock type before I reread your post.

I cut off the stock filler neck from a 70 tank when I did my under bed conversion and used the stock type cap.

Re: Fuel tank vent

Vented caps leak when going around corners when the tank is full,,I like sealed caps with a remote vent.

Re: Fuel tank vent

Hate to steal your thread - but I am wondering what you under the truck gas fuel lovers are doing about filling up the tank - I have a 69 Camaro tank with the filler neck from the original behind the seat tank as my filler and it has a small vent pipe on it and every time I go to put gas in the tank, the pressure from the gas pump hose keeps kicking off the handle of the gas pump. Very hard to put gas in the tank and it pours out on the ground. Any thoughts or suggestions?

As far as your problem, I use a non-vented gas cap without incident.

Thanks

Re: Fuel tank vent

If you have another outlet on the other side of the tank you might wont to try to put a vent on it that might solve your problem.

Re: Fuel tank vent

Rollover tank vents are available and inexpensive, like $15. I bought mine at tanks inc. Their recommendation was to place a short rubber hose on the vent so it sits a few inches above the top of the tank. Cause when you fill the tank all the air will need to be pushed out and you don't want the gas spilling out.

Re: Fuel tank vent

i have run two vent lines up in the fender on my stepside truck. on the end of these lines is a check valve style vent like the ones of a rearend housing. i have a line coming off each side of the tank and into each rear fender.

I moved my canister to the rear of the truck.

Re: Fuel tank vent

Couple things,,when I installed the 44 gal tank from a 85 suburban it had 3 lines going to the front, fuel, fuel return and vent going to a charcoal canister,,I went ahead and ran all 3 lines to the front,,caped off the fuel return line in the frame chanel and used the vent line and got a simple Canister from the junk yard from a 70's chevy,,the line with the vent is supposed to have a purge valve on it and then go to the carb,,I just used a vent from a diff on a stub hose,I also have a NON vented cap,so far it works great and have been pulling trailer loads with the big block and no problems and no smell of fuel,,the rear license plate fill tubes IMO have a filling problem most times with high flow gas pumps and will shut off the pump from the fuel spray/vapor,,that is why I went with a more Stock GM set up with the fill tube above the tank and mine fills no problem.

You only solution is to install another vent and use a rollover style vent.

Re: Fuel tank vent

With most aftermarket tanks there is additional ports on them. If yours has one use a Rollover vent. Depending on your tank you can use one that taps into the tank itself or used inline.
