c30

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1364511182 So I haven't picked this up yet, but if I do I'd like to make it a 4x4. Not sure how to go about that just yet, I think all I would have to do is find me a doner c20 4x4. How would you go about making sure the gears are the same front and back

Re: c30

Nice truck!!! You need to keep it a C30 as there are not as many of those around anymore, but its your project. I would find a newer 1 ton 4x4 and swap the body to the chassis.

Re: c30

x2. Or,if you're not really loading it up and working it like a 1t you could build it off any K-model frame and install 1t axles. To convert a 2ed to 4wd is a whole lot of work that requires a whole lot from under a factory 4wd anyway. Engine & transfer case crossmembers, spring mounts, drive shafts...and on

Re: c30

I definitely wouldn't do the K20 swap. If I were to make it 4x4,I would, depending on fabrication skills, build a NAPCO-esque conversion. That truck should have the GM-Eaton H072 in it. They used the same axle under the front of the NAPCO conversions. I saw someone on another website that has done this. They used Dana 60 outers and knuckles. Looked neat. Just google H072 and you should find it.

Re: c30

mrolds88, I wasn't for sure the napco comp was still in business. I will check into that. If I decide to move cab to a newer year truck what would be a good donner year.

Re: c30

one thing to remember is the cab and chassis trucks used the narrow 14 bolt rear and the dually box trucks the rear is 7 inchs wider and looks kind of stupid if your are trying to put a normal flatbed on it.

Re: c30

I don't know if NAPCO is still in business either. If you go with a newer chassis, I agree with the 73-87 cab and chassis. Or, use the K20 donor to get the front parts to convert your frame. Then either that H072 front axle or Dana 60. I just think the H072 front axle would be cool.

Re: c30

Cab is the same as a pickup. Trucks were sent to dealership in "unfinished state" for the dealer or customer to put whatever body the customer requires. Your truck probably arrived at the dealer as a cab and chassis. Here's a pic of a new one.

Re: c30

Cab & chassis is a truck. Everything else is a pickup truck.

1st truck is your truck sitting on a chassis like the 2nd truck:
