A leaf spring question.

Today, while looking under the truck, I discovered that the right leaf spring has a broken leaf. The 3rd one down is broke and has a 5 inch piece gone. The question is, can I reome the leafs, leaving just the upper leaf? I don't haul anything in the truck and am planning to swap to trailing arms at some point. I wouldn't think it would be dangerous by that's why I figured Id ask you guys. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Chris

Re: A leaf spring question.

It would be very dangerous if the last leaf broke as thats all that is holding the rear end to the frame of the truck .. not good wouldnt do it..

Re: A leaf spring question.

At this point I would suggest a PAIR of used springs until you decide where you want to go with the rear suspension.

While you could remove the broken leaf from the pack the spring will not be right without it. There are also other factors like having to replace the center bolt and the fact that a leaf spring can be a dangerous component to disassemble without the proper tools and knowledge. Plus the springs need to match so if you alter one you need to do the other too.

Re: A leaf spring question.

And for a moment lets think about where the missing piece ended up??? Please think about fixing this issue before driving it again. No need to to go down the freeway tossing large chunks of hardened steel at unsuspecting motorists...Just thinkin...DOH
