Transfer case paint color
OK, I finally have my transfer case out to get rebuilt.
When I was in the early rebuilding stage of my Suburban, I didn't know that T-cases were painted a different color than the trans. At least with the NP-205 equipped trucks, but what about the 67-68 trucks with a Rockwell T-221? Were the T-221's painted the same rust color red as the 205's? Currently mine is painted black, but I am seeing traces of the rust red paint on it. though my trans and tcase has been out, and worked on numerous times in its life span. At the same time being cleaned and pained, with what ever rattle can paint was available at the time. So, to those guys that care about OE original details like this. What are the paint colors for the 1968 SM-465 trans, adapter, and Rockwell T-221 Tcase? Thanks!

Re: Transfer case paint color
The T221 in my 62 is red. I also have a 67 or 68 T221 that I got for parts. It is red too. I don't think my trans was ever painted.

Re: Transfer case paint color
I've seen many t-cases that had red paint under the black, though it was primer or something. But, nothing under a truck here stays clean, usually turns red, but it's rust red...

Re: Transfer case paint color
My t221 in my 69 and 67 were both red, almost like a red oxide primer, but not quite. When I had mine out I repainted it, and red oxide was the only thing I could find that was close.

Re: Transfer case paint color
My 74 donor NP203 was painted Chevy Orange (maybe red) except for the aluminum pieces which were not painted. I suspect the yellow paint in the ad is for effect.

Re: Transfer case paint color
The T-case in that picture is a Dana 20. Regardless, I've seen them all kinds of colors over the years. The basic ones I've seen are red, black, rust, and grease

Re: Transfer case paint color
My t-221 is also a ruddy red color. Though unclear if it is primer, paint or rust
