Found a project truck and have some questions
Hey guys, I'm a 67-72 guy but I went and looked at what I was told was a 49 step bed today. I'm getting the info from the fellows wife. Old six banger is back in the chassis Her husband has "rebuilt it himself" It Looks awesome, all new gaskets and its clean. She says it runs great. Cab corners are bad. Floor has some patch panels it it. Running boards, Bed sides, fenders and chrome grill all look good. New Firestone wide whites, New brakes, lines and hoses for all 4 corners. Seat is there and nice. He was going back original.
Since its complete... but apart... and the fact I'm not familiar with this era truck... I have a couple Questions. The Bedsides were standing up, and taller that I am at 6 ft. Would that make it a long bed? It is a big six lug pattern with heavy leaf springs up front... Would that make it a C20? Would it a be a steal at $1500.00??? It it worth hanging in the Dog House till I can flip it? Check out the pics... Thanks in advance for the advice!

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
C20 isnt correct it will be a 3100 or 3200, all the trucks were 6 lug except 3/4 or 1 ton axles.

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
3100 = 1/2 ton short bed
3200 = 1/2 ton long bed

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
1/2 ton (3100) box sides are about 80" long (6ft 8 inches) 3/4 ton(3600) sides are 8 ft long, 1 ton (3800) are 9 ft long. Those are the "normal" bed lengths for the different models, but I suppose they could have been ordered with any one of those bed lengths.

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
Yep I'd say that her price is more than fair for what I see in the photos. If there are four of those white wall tires, the current price for them alone is around 700 but they may be pretty old. I'm not afraid of older bias tires that have been kept inside though.
It's either a 49 or 50. I'm a bit tired of "flippers' though, they are screwing up the prices for the rest of us. I can applaud buying the truck and finishing it out and then putting it up for sale so someone with no time or skill to finish the restoration can buy it and enjoy it though.

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
I am so stoked! I got the truck and all her parts home Monday. It is in such great shape. It is a 1950 - 3100. Built in Atlanta in August of 1950. I might like it more than my 71. I Laid out all the parts to see what's missing and It's hard to tell so I ordered a factory assy manual. The build is under way!

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
So, you gave $1500 for it?
What's your plan? Just reassemble it with the parts you have or some other power train? What cosmetic plans do you have for it? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
Yep $1500.00 I'm gonna finish the rust repair with all the panels that were included. Paint it all flat black exterior w/ cream interior He had gone thru the 216 c.i. engine. Its staying! Its still 6 volt, I do plan on changing to 12. I used to mess with old VW's back in the 70's and we would use the 6 volt starters with 12 volt batteries. I'm gonna try to keep it! More pics coming soon!!!

Re: Found a project truck and have some questions
Sounds like it will be nice.
Used to be I didn't, but now I REALLY like the long beds and especially the extra long 9 footers. Something extra cool about those kind of length not having been made for a looong time. Keep the photos coming! Posted via Mobile Device |

If those are the "as I found it cleaned up" pics you should be wearing a mask. Nice start.
