who all has put there own windshield in.

I tried but I quit after about 1 and 1/2 hours and then called a guy who has done it for 35 years and he had it in about 35 to 40 minutes. My hats off to any one who does these for a living. Oh he charged me 50 bucks, I would of paid more though.

Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

Its easy if you know how to do it. I've installed lots of rear windows with ropes but Im still not going to attempt my windshield. Im gunna pay a pro to do it.

Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

I've done several, but not the kind that have the trim in the rubber. heard those are a real pain. What I do is I park the truck in the sun, also have glass in the sun. put a lubed(dish soap) rope in the groove of the rubber. Then slowly start pulling the rubber lip over into the cab. Oh I was always told, that if the glass is warm, it's less likely to crack on you. hence installing it in the sun.

Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

Ive done it a couple times. Went in fairly easily, but one of em was a leaker. I didn't use any sealer on either of them, but only one leaked. The darn thing went in super nice. The seal looked great, nice and flush/flat...Still leaked =(

Cool Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

My daughter and I put both of them in after I had it painted. Trim and all. We put the rubber around the new glass and set it in the sun and then the trim.
Taped it all on good and started with the rope in the gasket.
It took me 2 tries because the first time we tried it from bottom to top so the weight was on the truck and not having to hold it up.
2nd try we started up top first and came down worked like a charm. No sealer in either one.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I've put in a bunch of them.

Use Goop hand cleaner for lube. It will stay in place and not dry out too fast.

Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

I have put in two blazers and one truck windshield but on this one I don't know why i couldn't do it. Maybe it like a few of you said temperature is the key it was only 65 here. I did put in the back glass but they are easy.

Re: who all has put there own windshield in.

It took 4 of us quite a long time to put the windshield in my '67 because we thought we knew what we were doing, lol. Next time, if there is one I will get a professional to do it.
