Slow 64 K10 build

I guess it's time to start a build thread for my truck. I dragged a 64 K10 home in December. I traded my 49 Styleline gasser for it, so the price was right. It looked like this when I got it





It has a 350 out of a 72ish truck, SM420, T-221 t-case, 12 bolt rear and closed knuckle Dana 44 front.



I started working on the little things like getting it running properly and making sure the lights and wipers worked, I also replaced the windshield, added the jr west coast mirrors, and got it registered in February. Shortly after getting it road legal, the rear end went out.



Mid March, I replaced the rear end with one out of a 78 K10.



I also scored a set of 64 Utah plates, so I had them assigned to the truck.



Last weekend, I picked up a step bumper from a friend of mine.



Today I replaced the glove box lock and striker, ignition tumbler, and door locks. I also removed the shell.

Thanks for the kind words. Plans include driving it regularly, get all the bondo and rust out of it, front axle swap/disc brake swap, paint it John Deere Green with a white top, white grill and bumpers and a black push bar.

The motor is a 72 350 out of another truck. I'm not sure of the internals, but it runs good after the tune up.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely keep you updated as I make more progress. Today it got a new pair or headlights, the windows cleaned and driven to my boss' house for a crawfish boil. I need to figure out my electrical draw so I can stop unhooking the battery when I park...

Great looking project, sucks abou the rear end, but looks like you got that problem straight. Question....what is on the floor shifter? Looks kinda like pipe insulator....just wondering. Rest of truck looks pretty solid and looking forward to the build. The west coast mirrors look great on it.

There was some pipe insulation on both the trans and t-case shifters. That came off the first or second day. I'm not sure exactly why it was on there to begin with.

Yesterday I was cleaning some of the junk that came with the truck out of the passenger floorboard and found the original t-case shift knob, so I removed the ugly pool ball and put the original back on.

Made a little bit of forward progress last night and today. Yesterday I got the step bumper stripped and repainted white. Today I mounted the push bar to see how it looked. It will get cleaned up and painted gloss black, the front bumper and grill will be white. Tomorrow I'm going to help a buddy of mine tune one of his trucks and maybe hang some good original doors on mine. The bondo filled ones I have need to go.







What do you guys think of the push bar, I kinda like it. I think it will look even better with a couple KC lights on it, maybe some kind of fog lights too.

Also, I think I figured out why my battery drains if I leave it connected. A PO removed the horn relay and just used a nut and bolt to supply power to a bunch of different things...

love the push bar i would keep it! and that missing horn relay defiantly sounds like your problem keep up the good work.

Got a new horn relay today and I think I got it wired up correctly, I guess I'll find out if that was the problem tomorrow when I try to start it up. I also started removing extra wires and switches that a PO installed. I may just get another forward lamp harness and replace the rat's nest I've got currently. I've been down with bronchitis for the last couple weeks (just went to the doc for it today) so I haven't been able to tackle the front bumper, grill or push bar like I've wanted too.

I replaced the missing horn relay and still have a battery discharge issue. I read a few things online today about the issue and have decided that tomorrow I'm going to replace my voltage regulator. It seems as though it is allowing my battery to overcharge while running and discharge while sitting. Hopefully this will fix my issues. I really want to be able to leave the battery cables connected when I park and not have to worry about if it will start again when I'm ready to leave.

Today I swapped out the voltage regulator and readjusted the headlights. Hopefully tomorrow morning it will still start...

Yesterday I picked up a few parts for the truck, namely inner fenders, loaded doors, core support, hood hinges, and battery tray.





I also got the rear bumper ready to install



I painted the headlight bezels and push bar. I put them on to see how they would look.



Last, but not least, I installed my hat holder

Actually made a little progress on the truck recently. I rebuilt the rear brakes with new hardware. Today I started filling the trim holes on the doors I picked up a while back. I've also been driving the truck to work for the past few days and getting all the little bugs worked out. I plan to take it up to Evanston, WY next month for the mud races. We'll see how that goes...

Ordered an add-a-leaf lift for the truck last weekend, got it in the mail this past Wednesday. I plan to install it next weekend and hopefully clear 35's. Will post pics as we go installing it. In case anyone wants part numbers, they are Rancho RS50012 for the front and Rancho RS60012 for the rear. The fronts are long style, the rears are short.

Started making progress on the truck again, sorta. I painted the wheels and front bumper white, and picked up a 1987 Suburban to get the axles, power brakes, power steering and suspension from. I plan to do the 52/63 spring swap also. I'm hoping to get 37 inch Humvee tires on it when I'm done.

That gasser is sweet! Nice truck too; will look cool on those humvee tires. I like the rear bumper, you cleaned that up real well!

Thanks. The gasser was fun, but not practical at all in Utah. My favorite part about the Humvee tires is the price, I found them locally for 165 per tire.

Thanks, this has been slow moving, but I've finally acquired some parts to get things moving along. There should hopefully be some major changes in the next couple weeks.

This truck was modified and "restored" at some point in the past and they did a terrible job. I've found about 3/4" of bondo on the tailgate and well over 1/4" on most of the rest of the truck.
