Re: 54 bites the dust.
Well it doesn't look like it got the cab. It's time to unbolt the bent tin and start checking out after the other guy's insurance people survey it. It looks like it hit high enough that it didn't get the frame either.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Ouch !! I can relate. I rear ended a F++++ Expedition a few years ago. Fortunatly my wife understands the importance of the truck in our lives & she found me a complete front sheetmetal assembly.
Good luck getting this fixed & have lost of pictures with pricing for the insurance company or they will screw you. Insurance companys don't have a clue about the value of our toys. |

Re: 54 bites the dust.
When I got in a similar accident with mine in Texas in the mid 70's we had to take a porta power and move the front door jamb a bit to square up the door opening. I was pondering what to do with it an my buddy called one of his other buddies to come over with his porta power and push it back in place.
My axle was bent double from the impact and the right spring was bent but my buddy talked me out of putting one of the two 67/69 Camaro subframes I had laying in my back yard under it as it wasn't being done in Central Texas then.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Glad you son is OK, if he would have been driving the usual teen starter car (light weight mini compact) he would be in the hospital. Another person on the board got in a pretty serious accident and the insurance paid over 20K to have it rebuilt. He had just finished the truck earlier in the year. Don't let them try and depreciate it to a couple of hundered dollars and an old junk truck. Hopefully you won't have to go thru the hassle and emotional energy of a fight with them.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Merely a flesh wound!!! The main thing is, your boy is still on this side of the dirt, the truck can always be fixed. This is just your chance to make it better this time round. Parts are easy to come by for these trucks now and judging by the truck, you know what you're doing.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Larry Lindley, man that sucks, glad you son is all right. Never a good thing when they get crunched up. At least it is good old metal and not tin like now adays. Now start planning for the rebuild.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Yup, that sucks but trucks are replaceable, sons are not.
Having been through your truck already at least you know (hopefully) what you'll find as you tear it down. Which should go fast. So will reassembly IF you can find decent replacement sheet metal without "losing an arm & a leg" THAT way! I only joke about that cause you already said your son was fine. Keep us posted on the redo. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Larry, did the other person have any insurance? It looks like the front sheet metal took the brunt of the damage, hopefully a front clip cures it. Again I'm glad your son wasn't injured any worse than he was.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
yes the other person had insurance, but it appears the right frame rail is twisted, the truck was turned a complete circle, hit the curb, and came to a stop.rear wheels appear to be warped, the rear axle housing also warped.other person on cell phone ,65mph in 35 zone.damage is alot worse than first thought.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Sounds like the ins. co. will total it. Negotiate a deal to get fair value and buy it back for a few bucks. Find a good frame and clip and start the rebuild. My Dad did that a lot, unfortuntely my Mom was not a good driver.

Re: 54 bites the dust.
Glad your son is ok...that's the important thing. We lost my dad's 40 chevy 2 years ago... Kid on his learners permit fell asleep crossed over the center line and hit a 51 chevy fleetline head on. My dad was behind the 51 chevy and the 51 chevy landed on his hood. My dad was the only one who walked away from it. 5 others were life flighted from the scene. Everyone survied though. Make sure you stay on the insurance company. They tried to give my dad 15k for the car....he got 25k after a fight.
