checking interest 70 K5 FS or trade
I'm not completely set on getting rid of my truck, so if you try to find this post in a day or so & it's not here that means I changed my mind & deleted.
I am discovering that I'm a pretty lousy mechanic. I rebuilt my carb & it didn't work out very well for me so now the truck sits in the driveway. I could spend a few hundred & get a new carb, but this truck is trying my patience. I've pulled the carb, rebuilt it, reinstalled it, truck wouldn't run. I swapped the carb between this truck & my wife's truck & replace the fuel pump & then both trucks run great. So I swap the carbs back & my truck runs for two days & then starts spewing gas out the top of the carb which was the initial problem. I was tempted to light a match, but didn't. ANyway, you've probably seen a few pics of my truck lately. I hate to type so I'm not going to try to give all the details unless someone asks. With a carb it runs but the motor is getting tired. Specs: 350 Sm465/205 3/4 ton axles 4.10 gears minimal rust in the normal spots 4" lift & 1" body lift The truck was originally an auto with AC. Other than the suspension, this truck is right on the fence as to if it would be better to go back to all original or go more towards the performance/off road side. Here's two pics. One before the roll cage was painted & one after but without the doors installed. I would be interested in a few different trades. The things that come to mind right now are: 69-72 SWB 2 or 4 wheel drive truck. I could go for either runs excellent & bad paint or barely runs & near flawless paint but no rust. a classic muscle car a 1 ton 4X4. meaning must have a D60 front that I can steal for my next 4X4 project but drive for now. others as well. just can't think of anything yet. |

If you happen to have a trade for the truck that runs great but needs paint, I will throw in my extra SB400 & even the extra Th350 trans I have.
I should also mention that the hard top doesn't fit. The cage was made a little too wide. You could probably make some modifications with a dremel to get it to fit, but I don't know why anyone would want to put that echoing, rattling disaster back on when soft tops can be had. |

Does you truck have a point distributor? Three years ago I had the same symptoms and when I put an HEI in, it corrected what I thought was a carb/fuel problem. It seems the old distributor would adjust itself because it was worn out. Just a thought.

I already converted it to HEI. It made a big difference but then the carb crapped out on me.

Man, I dig that rollcage. Can you give any details on it? So what's the price tag?

Do you mean details on the truck or the cage? If you're asking for a price on the truck, I'm not sure. I hate to sell it outright because either I'll spend the money or my wife will take it & then I'll be stuck with no toy.
A couple days ago when it was still running, I started to get frustrated & put a for sale sign on it for $5000. My wife, who I thought hated the truck, went & took the sign off & said I shouldn't sell it & even went on to say she had been looking forward to taking a drive in it. I was completely floored. My main problem is lack of patience. I get frustrated because I need to dump ~$3-4000 into the truck & it would be perfect for what I want out of it. I just don't have that kind of money to drop on it right now. I can only spare ~$100/month to put into the truck right now & then stupid crap like this carb keep breaking so it's hard to save towards some of the larger things I need for the truck. |

I was wondering about the cage. I don't think ya atta sell your toy. Especially if the wife finally took some interest. Your home free. Live the dream, lol

I have a 72' swb 4x4. It does not have a motor in it right now. It has a 4" lift 35"bfg/mt on 15x10 alcoas. the interior is nice. It does have a trans/tranfer that were rebuilt and only have about 5k on them (350/205) I also have a 400/205 setup that I would be willing to throw in. You could pull the motor in your truck and keep it or I have a 74' 350 that I could put in but it also needs rebuilding. It needs paint and a little body work, but it is a original CA. truck so very little rust. I have some cash too so let me know if you are interested.

What would be the difference between getting an old truck or keeping your blazer? Your going to have the same mechanical issues & problems with an older project truck. Are you just sick of looking at your Blazer? Personally, I think you have one of the nicer looking rigs on the board. I understand your frustrations with the mechanical. Not long after I bought my truck, the ignition went belly-up. I rebuilt the carb, change everything in the distributor (including the distributor) and finally discovered that it was the plug into the back of the ignition switch that was bad. After I changed that (first test drive around the block) my tranny blew out the sprag clutch. Now, my radiator has a hole & I'm still having tranny problems. That is the problem with old trucks & cars. You really gotta look at them as long-term projects and just be willing to tinker with them when you can. If I were you, I'd keep your Blazer.

I just wanted to add, woooohoooo the blazer is running again. I can't tell you what was wrong, it's top secret. Besides it'll let you know for sure how dumb I am.

Mine was stupid. I had the fuel pressure regulator in backwards. Doh. Switched it around & it ran.
