Tanks: option or aftermarket?
Ok, I bought a bed a while back for my 72. It had two plastic tanks strapped under the front of the bed. Only thing I got were the straps. Were they an option? Also the bed had these factory looking pieces bolted to the front of it. One each side and others (I forgot to take a pic of them) at the back marker lights. I would presume they are factory camper tie downs, correct? I think tey would make a nice addition to my truck since it has a Custom Camper option.

My 1972 GMC had "dealer installed" dual tanks along each side of the bed. There was a tank selector switch located just to the left of the seat on the floor.

i don't believe any of the factory stuff or the dealer add-on stuff used "straps" for retention. Most dual aux tanks use through-bolts for mounting if I'm not mistaken. I'm not certain that's true in all cases, but that's all I've ever seen.
Is it possible someone tried mounting a blazer tank in the rear? I'm not sure id they had straps or not. Most likely a homemade setup. I wish I DID know if someone made these still - I have my dual aux tanks out right now, and the refurbishment is gonna be a pita I think. Oh well, can't complain and it's doable. I will be watching to see what others have to say. I've also been mapping out some drawings to repro my current saddle tanks, will share if I ever finish em. It's a "just in case" I happen to somehow destroy these in the cleaning process... |
