how to mount leaf springs??
Hey guys,
so im working on an axle swap in my 49 AD and i have a 79 3/4 ton axle im putting under the front. My problem is that the hangars of the 79 on the front are on outside of the frame and on the inside rear hangars they are about the middle of the frame. Anyone got any ideas on how to mount my leafs. i cant move them inward more because my front pumpkin is in the way. |

Re: how to mount leaf springs??
The front mounting points are probably going to require the most fabrication. I have done it a couple of different ways. You can just cut and weld brackets and a crossmember at the correct width. Or try to use something cut off of another vehicle.
The rear swing shackles are a lot easier since the springs hit right at frame width. It's as simple as using the factory mounts from a 73-87 4x4 truck. The last time I needed them, they were still available at the local dealership.....I don't know if that is the case anymore though. They area simple flanged unit that mounts to the inside of the frame rail. You just use a holesaw or torch to cut a hole big enough for the bushing.
