May I see some headliners?

Hi~ I'm kind of ready for a headliner, just the plain kind would be oK, I can put vinyl over it like I used on my kick panels, right? What is generally used for insulation above liner and is this a pretty easy installation? Any suggestions would be nice

How exactly do you put a Speaker and that Vinyl stuff in ?..The one im getting has a Stock Radio but I don't understand how it plays music

Howard, you're going to have to be a little more specific

First off I'm not using the air intakes on my truck, so the speaker gets to go back into the vent hole a bit. I made a template out of paper of the shape I wanted the wood, bought some speakers, cut the vinyl to fit, glued the vinyl into place, and there you have it!

Now if you have the stock radio? the genuine radio? where the radio hole hasn't been destroyed mutilated by someone trying to install an 8 track~ then you're a lucky person! Now why is it you don't understand how it plays music? Is it in bad shape, dirt dobbers, what? you know back in that day there was probably only a few radio frequencies, Ishcabible, Hank Williams Sr, Tenessee Ernie Ford, etc.

I'm getting closer to working on my headliner. I purchased a fiberglass headliner insert off Ebay some time back. I'm just going to add some 1/4" foam (maybe add in a simple design) and cover in vinyl. I'm going to a clean look, so I will not be adding back in any visors. The back of the cab will also be covered in foam and vinyl.

Going good I have $600 in my pocket If I can sell the Professional grill then I have it ..It didn't have a Tape player, I believe just the old Radio


If you pray, please keep me in yours, I am really hoping to get this Truck..Got a Welder the other day and hoping I can sell that Grill, to buy it and start working on the Rust issues etc..I want to re-paint it the Original Green it was ..He still has the Original '59 GMC Manual in the Truck .. So I needed to ask how to find out the Original Color of the interior ..I want to keep everything Original, but update things slowly but surely

600 bucks! Better hide that money! I suppose being in a small town doesn't help to sell things, whereas here in Houston, 5-6 million folks! incredible! I'm sure someone here could answer the question of color, but you'll have plenty of time to contemplate that!

I had a '57 before and my Dad had a '59 the whole time I was a boy. Those plus my current '55 never had ANY insulation. That said, I plan to use Peel 'n Seal on mine and glue the original black rubber mat headliner to that.

If you could find something LIKE the original headliner rubber that would conform to the roof, you could spray adhesive 1/4" foam like Marc plans and use your vinyl over it. Personally, I'd prop the headliner up into place with some sticks or 2x4's to make CERTAIN the thing sticks up there. Sorry for writing so long but I've wondered about using parts store chrome trim around the headliner instead of the factory rubber.

Not to speak for Marc's plan but I THINK the windlace metal strips hold it on the A.D. Trucks. At least they did on my '46, Art Deco truck.

Hey Dan, I know you like Flashy! Chrome would look nice up there! and you didn't write long~ how else can one convey their thoughts without words? I write a lot!
I have some stuff I used on my floor~ a thermal barrier/ radiant barrier? I thought about putting a tad of spray adhesive to hold it up, then put the headliner. I was more than curious how the headliner goes up? Does it install relatively easy, like a windshield? have to use a rope to install it? or just a screwdriver? Who's wordy?

I seen some headliner material foam backed at JoAnne Fabrics. They had assorted common colors like Tan, Black, and Light and Dark Gray and Blue. Put the factory rubber edgeing on, than peel & seal then attach the headliner material with some 3M high strength adhesive to peel and seal. Well thats my plan.

Well, as Dan said, it is a beautiful truck or at least what we can see of it, and btw, Welcome to a really cool site with a bunch of great people!

For me, I guess I'll just buy the stuff from a vendor to get the job done.

Dan-

You pretty much figured it out. I also have a rear view mirror that helps to hold it in up front. The back is held in place by the metal strip that you spoke of. Then the sides are held in place by the cab/door seal...

Stock radio had a metal box speaker mounted above the windshield. A google search should turn up a picture. If you have the stock radio and it works you are golden. If it doesn't work you can have it restored or there are places that convert them to modern guts but keep the original dial and knob configurations. If its too much hassle mail it to me.

Hello Denee, When I put my headliner in I went with my seat colors. I first spray glued double sided foil insulation to help deaden noise. I started from the middle out using 3M Super 77. Its not real hard to do. The roughest part is deciding what kind of design to do. I know you'll show the forum what you decided on. With your truck color and interior color it will look great.
