Rochester B to Monojet Swap, 65 230
Has anybody done this swap?
Looks like its a direct bolt up to manifold and linkage useing a manual choke Monojet from 1976 C10 250 six. Fuel and vacuum lines a bit different but thats just easy plumbing. Wondering if its a good option to retain a stock type one barrel on a 230 but w/o out all the fiddlin to slow or stop the leaks inherent with the Mod B's. Any issues with vacuum port differences in the monojet carb base or is it as simple as useing the 1976 carb base gasket on the 1965 manifold? Last edited by Sharps40; 04-03-2013 at 01:55 PM. |

I have never tried it but I think it would be a good swap. The Monojet has good driveability & good gas mileage. I would sure do it.

Re: Rochester B to Monojet Swap, 65 230
I'm lookin over options to keep John Lee Jr very driveable and very reliable. Fentons and dual Carter Webers are koolski but, prolly not a good low maintenance value on a stock rebuilt 230 - suspect the power derived from them on a stock motor won't be worth the high cost either so...
If I can do some light mods that reduce under hood time and gas drippin down onto the exhaust, I think I'd like to make it happen. Anyone else? I looked at the carb gaskets for both models of carb and they are perzactly the same so, bolt on should see all the monojet vacuum passages working as they should on the 230 intake log. About the only issue I see is cosmetic, and thats the carbon cannister port on top of the monojet...but it'll hide neatly under an air cleaner. |

Lil more research, a 68 Monojet looks better...manual choke and a lot less vacuum ports to plug up.

I'm running a '70 Monojet on my 292. I really like it.

Cool. Linkage bolt right up too? If so, this is lookin pretty much like a no brainer swap!

Here ya go. If you need any specific detail just say the word. Also if you can find a carb still attached to the manifold you can get all the springs and goodies. Either way it's pretty simple. As far as 230 vs 292 throat openings I think they are the same but double check that.

Re: Rochester B to Monojet Swap, 65 230
Too easy, linkage looks to be a direct hook up and the throtle cable bracket is a simple bench project with some nice flat steel or polished aluminium.
Exhaust and Alternator upgrades first, then carb and HEI! |
