oil gauge: what am I missing?
Please help save my right shoe:
One pic is the rear of the gauge, the other is the end of the oil line (out of focus). How much hardware am I missing ? Posted via Mobile Device

Doesn't look like you're missing anything to me.
The large nut on the back of the gauge is simply used to mount the gauge. The small nut/fitting on the oil line should screw directly into the back of the gauge. The factory used what is called a "double compression" or "threaded sleeve" type fitting that basically has the compression ferrule and nut all formed into one piece ... instead of two separate pieces as is common on most other compression fittings. If yours is leaking, the compression ferrule part might be deformed and no longer sealing to the back of the gauge or to the line. Replacements are available as Weatherhead #6100x2, Edelmann #111200, or Everco #11A. Also look down inside the fitting on the back of the gauge where the tapered ferrule part of the nut seats. Make sure that is clean and isn't scored up or otherwise damaged. |

Should that fitting spin freely at the end of the line? I didn t dare force it to move. Logicaly ir should.
Thanks for such a detailed answer, & also for the good news that I am not all that stupid when doing take down. I am dusting out the dash & fixing a few things behind it, the choke cable was hard to remove & the switches needed being freed from alkaline dust. The gauge was alrite, let see the ending is crusted. I had 2 brown shoes when I started the car after almost 2 months of hibernation in the basement. Forgot about the gauge. Got the rear brakes & line done in the basement, along with draining all fluids but the coolant as my winter project.
The roof of the cabin is pushing that vent up. Wanted to redo the rear axel bearings, couldn t because of the wall less than 2 feet to the side. At least I never got too cold. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device
