Re: headers for a sbc in tf truck

Block huggers were the only thing I could get to fit.

Re: headers for a sbc in tf truck

Omg, I went through a difficult time with headers. I asked this question long ago and just had to go by the seat of my pants or skirt, lol. I started with some block huggers, then changed to some Chinese long tube headers that wound up being deformed and fought to get my money back from the vendor!, then bought some Hedman headers that I really like, didn't hang down as far as I would like, but they "feel" solid, not tinny like the Chinese stuff. You can see them on my build thread. I have the stock frame with the Saginaw steering box conversion and a th350 tranny, sbc engine, with crossmember removed However, I don't know if these would mesh with the factory steering/parking brake! quite a few variables to take in consideration.

Re: headers for a sbc in tf truck

I'd love to answer questions but I can't cause I didn't install my headers, they were on the truck when I bought it.

Not sure you can see it in this photo but whoever installed them did have to put a small dent in one tube to make them fit.

I WANT to remove them to have them coated - but honestly? They may be paper thin and I'm afraid the bolts would snap off in the heads, then I'd be SCREWED. I've read all the things to use: heat cherry red, use 50/50 ATF & acetone, the candle trick, tighten before loosing, etc. ALL of them have their proponents and failure stories.

The pair I used were long tube headers.I went and looked in my file and found the headman part number from summit hed-69260.I had to dimple tube on drivers side. Also had to notch out bottom of bellhousing cross member to clearance exhaust.
