Top Storage

Hey guys, I just recently took the top off my 72 Blazer. I love the top off. It takes up so much space in the garage and with my other toys it is getting tight. What do you guys do with your tops while you aren't using it? I woul like to see pictures. I've heard of storing by hanging in the garage. Ha anyone done this?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are a few guys who have built nice hoists in their garages for their tops. Because of the way I use my garage and the fact that I don't have a really high ceiling, I can't do that.

I have a flat-roofed shed in my back yard. My top goes on top of that when it comes off.

not a great pic but i mounted pulleys on the ceiling that all run to a central line that is connected to a boat trailer winch that is mounted on the wall of the garage. works like a champ gets the top up and out of the way and I can park the blazer under it

I like the idea of using a boat winch.

Mine hangs in the garage. I put 4 heavy eye bolts into the rafters. I run rope through the corners of the 2x4's and up through the eye bolts. Then tie a loop in the end of the rope and lift the corner until I can put the loop over the end of the 2x4. Totally non-mechanical, about $12 in materials and I can park the truck under it.

I now put the forward 2x4 through the door window area so I can ge the top up a little higher.

Nice job with your mounting system! Do you have any more photos to share? I am a proud new Blazer owner and am debating on how to best store my hardtop.

Nice! I'm moving to Kalispell in October. Do you drive your Blazers at all during the winter? I expect my K5 and K20 will need to be garaged during the winter months to avoid damage from salty roads. Thanks, Pete

i am pleased it takes a bit of adjustment up front to make sure that after the ropes stretch the top goes up level but once it is set makes for a pretty easy method. On the back board I put bolts up through the top mounting holes to make sure that the top can't slide. I used eye bolts with lag threads into the joists but if your ceiling is not sheet rocked I would go all the way through and use a nut on back side.

You will like Kalispell it is beautiful over there. Kalispell gets more snow then Billings. Quite a bit more. I do drive them some in the winter but I am pretty selective of what days.
