Getting a new truck! yeah buddy!!!
Hi guys new to 99+ board but I've been on the 88-98 board for a few. I'm Getting a 2003 Chevy crew cab shortbed 2wd truck with the 6.0 and have a little extra cash so I wanted to do some upgrades mainly bolt-ons. I have been looking at :
Bull dog tuner K&n cold air intake Jet performance mass air Exhaust of choice ? I've had flowmaster on everything I've owned kind of want something different. What do you guys recommend? Can I delete my cats? Will I have a problem with my o2? Thanks hope to get some great answers and recommendations. Pics soon to come. Posted via Mobile Device |

Have it custom tuned by a competent tuner.

Get a custom tune, they're 100% better than any hand held programmer. Also I wouldn't worry about changing the mass airflow sensor, it can cause dificulties with tuning and the stock one will hold up to quite a bit of power just make sure it's clean. I'm running a hooker aerochamber and love it, I can find a sound clip if you want. Also you'll get the same results out of any cold air intake, I'm running a $60 ebay one.

I'm running Magnaflow on my 00" Sierra with 5.3 and sounds great. Also using a Diablo Predator programmer makes a lot of difference.

Re: Getting a new truck! yeah buddy!!!
I ran FlowMasters on everything I owned, with the exception of my '03 Silvy SS which had a Magnaflow. I really loved the sound of it...mellow at idle/normal cruising, but was loud when you got in the "fast pedal".. I'm actually running a CherryBomb Xtreme on my current truck, and it's not too bad......

It depends where you are and if you have inspections. I removed my cats and tuned out my 02s. A tune will improve mpg, as long as you can keep you foot out of it!

no emissions here in michigan. my main goal is to improve mpg, unlocking extra hp would just be a extra benefit.

Check out blackbear or Wheatley for a mail order tune, you'll love it. I've messed with programmers and in all honesty the only difference I could feal was changing shift points/pressure.

Blackbear tune is what I am going for after alot of research, probably one of the best things you will ever do to your truck.

Flowmaster is crap, get a spintech and you won't regret it. I've got an 8000 truck muffler 3" in 2.5 dual out dumped right before the axle, never goin with anything other then spintech again

Re: Getting a new truck! yeah buddy!!!
Agreed on the custom tune. All research I've done leads to balckbear tune. They can tune out the rear 02's so if you want to delete the cats you will not throw a code.
I'd also suggest, depending on budget, a cam and longtube headers. I had a Corsa dB exhaust on my 2000. The sound was the best I've heard. |
