Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the get well calls
I'm finally back at home full time after being in and out of the hospital since last July. I had several members who have called to check on me and wanted to say thanks. This is a great community and am proud to be a part of it. I still have a dash pad to ship out to one of the members here, it's just between the ICU and rehab I haven't been up to doing a whole bunch. There's nothing like going to bed aat home and waking up from a coma in the section of the hospital where they keep the organ donors on ventilators till they can harvest the organs. So to the member I promised the dash pad to, be on the look out for it in the next week or so.

I bet it ticks you off to know that there are people that would fake your situation as an excuse for not sending out a dash pad lol. Do you have a different perspective on life now? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the get well calls
I was being treated for a couple of other illnesses, but because I was seeing 4 specialists and my regular Dr., who is also my pain management Dr., they didn't realize that one if the complications I have caused them to accidentally medically induce hypokalemia. So when I arrived in the big city's heart hospital it was because of the congestive heart failure and double pneumonia, it took them almost a week to realize that my potassium level was so low I was in imminent danger of dying from a stroke. So now I'm 100% disabled and it looks like I'll never be able to drive again. My whole perspective on life changed when the pulmonologist came in and told me to get my living will made out and to try and have a list of who I wanted to be my pallbearers. He told me my heart can't take another episode like what I just went thru and that he couldn't believe I survived. At 41, that is something you don't ever expect to hear. It's been tougher on my family than it has been on me cause I can't be left alone for more than 8 hours at a time because of the speed at which this has snuck up on me. I had literally been at the Drs office the day before I was put into ICU. Now I try and take nothing for granted. Been trying to mend some fences with my family that I haven't spoken to in years and just trying to spend more time with the kids. I'm grateful that God came me some extra time to right some of the wrongs.

The illness that has left me disabled, besides the other ones, is one that is genetic. After reconnecting with some cousins of mine that I haven't seen in 30 years, it turns out that some of them have it and it looks like it was passed down thru the native American side of my family.

Wow, man. That's wild. You're way too young for something like this. I'm sorry
A lot of these doctors can be more harm than help, with their "lets try this medication" theory. It's so easy to just write a prescription, get drug company kick backs, get you out of their office, and rinse and repeat with the other dozen patients they'll see before lunch. Use your Native American heritage to your advantage. They didn't have modern medicine and other sh!t that doesn't always work, without causing a host of side effects. They used the land. Herbs, and other remedies. Maybe try that, and find an MD that knows what he's doing, and the two of you can find a good approach together Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the get well calls
Mister-B, one of the medicines they tried on me helped at first, but then I started getting tics like someone with Tourettes Syndrome. As it stands now, I've been cut back from 50 plus pills a day to around 35. They said the way they diagnose this is by first trying everything else, and if those things don't work, then they know what they are dealing with. I've given each of the kids one of the old vehicles so in case something happens it won't get tied up in probate. All these things you don't think you'll have to worry about till later on in life, and then BAM. One of my kids is a child prodigy, he started college at the age of 12, and I couldn't be there cause I was in a coma. Those are the things that hurt the most. Now I just try and do something with them everyday, even if it's just watching a movie together.

Just glad to hear you are slowly working through this. It may not be working out 100% for the best but you are still around to talk about it and that's what counts for now.. Wish you and your family all the best and good luck in your recuperation. LockDoc

Re: Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the get well calls
Thanks guys, I appreciate the well wishes, they really do mean a lot. My son is trying to finish up a couple of the projects I gave him. I really thought the hardest part was going to be the not being able to drive or ride my Harley, but being able to see my kids enjoy the hobby that I use to love has made it a bit easier to take.

This is not good to hear.I'm glad you're home and hope things continue to improve. As to the practical side of what to take from your experience, watch your meds.I don't think it could have helped you,but everyone should treat their Pharmacist as a member of their health care team. They even more than Doctors are aware of medications and interactions.Doctors are so busy seeing patients, meeting drug reps and billing people that they don't always keep up with this type thing.I generally make the Pharmacist go over the drugs I've been prescribed and look for interactions. They're supposed to do this anyway but don't let them let you fall thru the cracks.
