Rebuilt motor not firing

Any ideas would be helpful. Rebuilt 350, set it on frame, new plugs, wires, distributor, points etc. I get 12v out of coil wire but nothing out of the plug wires so voltage seems to be getting to the points, not sure where to check now.

Re: Rebuilt motor not firing

do you get spark out of the coil when ground side is connected then disconnected?

Re: Rebuilt motor not firing

First place to check is to make sure the points are opening. If I remember correctly (it's been a long time) the points gap should be about .019 when the top of the lobe is in contact.

That should get you in the ballpark.

Check the rotor.I've forgotten it and had a day or 2 looking for a problem that I created.

Since you have points, you got a condensor too. I used to tune-up cars for a business, and ran into 3 bad condensors in all the cars I experienced. One of them was a used one. The other TWO were NEW ones! Don't overlook it! Seems like today's uni-points--points and condensor mtd. together--seem to give more problems re: quality control than they used to when individual components!
