rear end experts i have questions about the 8.5

I have an 86 short 2wd. With an 8.5 10 bolt. My question is I know the carrier and such are interchangeable between the mid 90s caprices and roadmasters and our trucks but how interchangeable is the complete rear end? I saw a caprice rear end complete for sale locally. Has disc brakes and a posi with 3.73 since its from a squad car. Are they Interchangeable enough that I could just weld spring perches on and use it?

They are narrower than the trucks. I think 62" wide but don't quote me on that. You can take that center and put it in your housing, then get 89-91 burban 2wd axle shafts that have the 30 spline axles. I'm putting one in the front of my truck, just have to change the axles....

Also I don't think all the cars were 30 spline. Some 28 and I don't know what years were

Re: rear end experts i have questions about the 8.5

They are the 7.5 or 7.something rears, they aren't even the 8.5. Need to check first!!!!

Buddy grabbed a couple posi's from these cars, and when looking for more, found the 7 5/8 ones more than the 8.5....

I want the whole thing because of rear disc and posi even if its gov loc lol. I've got a t56 so I'd be going lower than 3.73 anyway
